Irving Equipment Limited is a well-established Heavy Lift and Specialized Transport company with a diverse fleet of mobile and crawler cranes, SPMTs, and other specialized transport and lifting equipment with locations in Saint John, New Brunswick, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and several other branch locations in Atlantic Canada.
We are currently experiencing a period of steady growth and are looking to add a talented leader to our growing company in the role of GENERAL MANAGER, based in Saint John, NB. Not currently in New Brunswick? Ask us about relocation
As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic and operational leader who thinks in broad terms, sees things from new perspectives, and demonstrates a unique ability to simplify the complex. You are a hands-on, dynamic leader with the ability to energize and inspire the team to take action and achieve common goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Profit and Loss Management: Take ownership of the financial performance of the business, driving business and revenue growth, managing costs, and optimizing profitability while ensuring adherence to budgetary targets.
- Employee Growth and Engagement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee development, providing mentorship, training, and support to cultivate a high-performing team. Promote employee engagement initiatives to enhance morale and retention.
- Union Relations: Collaborate effectively with union representatives to maintain positive labour relations, negotiate contracts, and address any labour-related issues in a constructive and fair manner.
- Business Development: Develop and implement strategic plans to expand Irving Equipment's market presence, identify new business opportunities, and cultivate strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.
- Health and Safety: Prioritize the health and safety of all employees by enforcing compliance with industry regulations, implementing robust safety protocols, and fostering a safety-first culture throughout the organization.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with a professional designation. An MBA is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience leading an operation, preferably in a comparable role.
- Commercial experience with large industrial customers.
- Demonstrated experience improving processes to drive practical business outcomes.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of managing financial requirements, deadlines, and priorities.
- Building and fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders, internal and external.
- Demonstrated ability to spot exceptional talent and nurture the growth of the next generation of leaders for the company.
- Financial acumen with a track record of driving profitability and managing budgets effectively.
- Experience working with labour unions and navigating collective bargaining agreements is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must prioritize a culture of health, safety, quality, and operational excellence.
