JOB TITLE: PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND FACILITATOR, DEBORAH’S GATE SAFEHOUSE

SUPERVISION: The Program Coordinator and Facilitator reports to the Manager, Anti-Human Trafficking Programs

OBJECTIVE: The Program Coordinator and Facilitator provides oversight, supervision, direction, and facilitation of in person and digital training, education, mental health support groups, addictions, employment, immigration, fine arts, and technical skill development for Survivors of human trafficking in Canada of all genders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Responsible to model positive behaviours & boundaries to clients and contribute to the mission and goals of the Salvation Army Illuminate.

· Participate in training, meetings, case management development, administrative system orientations as required.

· Operate within a rotating on call schedule for emergencies within team for staff and/or program related emergencies.

· Develop, implement, and evaluate weekly lesson plans and group sessions in topics such as advanced mental wellness, addictions, recovery and rehabilitation, utilizing best practice evidence-based models, including the accompaniment of clients in the community to activities and events, and local travel to events.

· Implement existing courses and programming, build community relationships and discounted access to services, coordinate with community partners in service access and delivery.

· Supervise all mental health, addictions programming for Illuminate program clients, reporting to the Manager, Anti-Human Trafficking Programs, and in collaboration with other supervisory team members where relevant.

· Complete complex reporting, statistical evaluation, and oversee program budget, reporting to Manager on outcomes & funder requirements, attend funding related events & share program outcomes.

· Participate in interviews and hiring process and provide orientations for departmental staff.

· Participate in recruiting, orientating, training, scheduling, and evaluating volunteers and practicum students for programming.

· Provide administrative support in investigations, progressive discipline, and termination where relevant.

· Maintain confidential staff files & uphold all policies and procedures.

· May assist with support at additional program sites where required.

· Coordinate completion of tasks to staff as per their job descriptions, report on accountability and performance to the Program Manager on an ongoing basis, including oversight of lived experience employment placements.

· Oversee financial resources of the department, including petty cash, visa reconciliations, and any other resources determined for program delivery.

· Development of administrative frameworks and best practices for program delivery, including new and innovative approaches to digital programming, hard target strategies, teaching to learning styles & using creative multi-modal approaches.

· Provide accompaniment by vehicle, ferry, plane, or public forms of transit for program participants where required for programming, supply purchasing, attending events.

· Utilise knowledge of issues pertaining to ADL’s, Person-Environment-Occupation Model, occupational therapy, human trafficking & exploitation, rehabilitation, immigration, de-colonizing praxis, fine arts, lived experience inclusion, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, education, racial justice & equity, financial inclusion, and internal policies and procedures to develop program materials and partnerships.

· Conduct psychosocial client assessments (for clients in crisis and self-referrals) managing the evening on call service, oversee the implementation of staff activities & case work.

· Ensure the implementation of the Case Management System/Freedom Model as it relates to development, activities, and education, including case notes, activity reports, therapeutic approaches & intervention.

· Seek community donations and in-kind support for programming, develop relationships with external stakeholders, participate in community-based events & represent organization as per Director’s request.

· Complete ongoing facilitation training related to staff training, programming, and therapeutic approaches as required, provide training to other team members.

· Ensure that program procedures are maintained, develop relevant policies and present to Management, learning guides, and facilitator materials where required.

· Test-run programming and utilize learning lab techniques to refine project concepts, materials, and delivery.

· Ongoing maintenance of resources, facility library, and message boards, as well as maintain physical resources including cell phones, vehicles, and program equipment.

· Conduct survivor talkback sessions & councils to support program participant input integration into programming activities.

· Monitor and ensure office safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, complete incident report investigations & develop program related policy & follow violence & risk assessment guidelines.

· May provide back-up support to and or assume functions in other program areas as needed.

· Ascertain and provide participants with referral services within the community and/or social services resources where relevant.

· Assist Management team in establishing meaningful connections with community partners, support and participate in stakeholder evaluations and focus groups, attend offsite meetings with stakeholders as required.

· Ensure client supervision and safety in designated programs and comply with relevant program Policies and Procedures.

· Assess client suitability to internal and external programs and agencies as required.

· Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

· Reports directly to Deborah’s Gate – Program Manager

· The Program Coordinator & Facilitator may be responsible as a group/work leader for up to 25 people.

· They will be responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with an existing staff team supervised by Management.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

· Minor material responsibility.

· The Program Coordinator & Facilitator may be required to participate in preparing budgets with respect to the departmental budget as Management requires.

· May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.

· Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.

Additional Information:

This position is required to work in a stressful environment dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems and developing new and innovative content. The ability to function independently, with responsibility, and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position. Direct program activities may require a moderate level of physical ability to effectively carry out the duties of the position.

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate must have the following:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

· Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a relevant field.

· An undergraduate degree in a relevant field will be considered as a strong asset.

· A certificate/certification including mental health, wellness, behavioural intervention, addiction, and substance abuse.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

· At least three years of relevant experience.

· At least two years of recent, relevant experience in administration, development, and research relating to women, domestic violence/abuse, substance abuse, mental health, and homelessness issues is required for this position.

· Experience in Microsoft Office the internet and multi-media creation.

Skills and Capabilities

· Ability to keep confidentiality at all times.

· Mature individual, who is committed to the mission of the Salvation Army and is willing and able to work within the Salvation Army doctrine and theology, including supporting client spiritual care as per the psychosocial model of rehabilitation.

· Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with theory, principles and practices specifically in the human services field, case management, administrative systems, employment, human trafficking & exploitation, de-colonizing praxis, fine arts, lived experience inclusion, domestic violence/abuse, mental health, addictions, homelessness, employment, and internal policies and procedures to develop program materials, curriculum, and partnerships is required.

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

· Demonstrated effective interpersonal, conflict resolution, organizational, and time management skills.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team setting.

· Good presentation skills.

· Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment.

· Experience in employment, fine arts, and social therapies an asset.

· Must be able to obtain Correction Service Canada clearance and clearance from The Salvation Army’s Child Abuse Registry is a condition of employment.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently.

· Non-violent Crisis Intervention, or the willingness to be trained.

· Ability to write & speak French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, or Spanish an asset.

OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry.
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program.

SALARY : Pay Band 5

TERMS : Temporary, Full-Time (35 hours/week)

Contract: ASAP to September 01st, 2024

DAYS & TIME : Tuesday – Saturday (9:30AM – 5:00PM)
