Whitfield seeks an organized, energetic, and experienced professional to grow annual philanthropic support from its many constituencies. In collaboration with the Director of Development and Director of Alumni Relations, the Associate Director of Development will cultivate, solicit, and steward donations to Whitfield School with steady year over year growth. The successful candidate will manage initiatives, events, and campaigns designed to increase giving across the board from current parents, parents of alumni, alumni, grandparents, and faculty/staff.

The Associate Director of Development is responsible for overseeing the annual fund, managing a small portfolio of gift prospects, and facilitating the student philanthropy program. In collaboration with the Director of Development, responsibilities include but are not limited to planning and executing an annual fund campaign of $1.0M+, coordinating annual fund volunteers, coordinating fundraising and cultivation events, and developing and implementing micro-campaigns and special fundraising efforts.

The Associate Director of Development serves on the Development team and reports directly to the Director of Development and is supported by the Development Database Manager.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Annual Fund Management

  • Establish annual fundraising goals, objectives, and projections. Monitor, analyze, and evaluate giving patterns, and use these metrics to inform projections, goals, and annual campaign strategy for success year over year.
  • Execute all aspects of the annual fund appeal process including education, cultivation, targeted segmented direct solicitations, stewardship, and acknowledgments.
  • Develop annual fund communications and content, including brochures, appeals, acknowledgment letters, emails, annual report, impact reports, etc.
  • Develop strategy to retain current donors, diversity the donor pool, and increase acquisition and participation rates of all constituencies.
  • Facilitate major donor events and fundraising events.

Prospect & Relationship Management

  • Manage the annual giving prospect pipeline.
  • Manage a portfolio of gift prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to integrate annual giving and major gift solicitation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Relations to create alumni engagement strategies that include volunteerism, communications, and philanthropic opportunities.
  • Facilitate the student philanthropy program and oversee the student philanthropy board.

Volunteer Management

  • Identify, recruit, train, and manage fundraising volunteers (parents and alumni).
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for fundraising events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated success managing a multi-dimensional annual giving program.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in database management and high level of comfort using data to inform decision-making; familiarity with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and successfully execute multiple concurrent tasks; to anticipate needs and act accordingly; and to perform with a high degree of initiative and confidentiality.
  • Strong relationship-builder and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse constituencies equitably, respectfully, consistently, and with integrity.
  • Positive “can do” attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience providing a high level of professional service to internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations diplomatically and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and patrons.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years experience in fundraising, in an education setting preferred.
  • Full-time, 12-month position.
