You are a thoughtful person with a welcoming and approachable nature who holds a strong commitment to our mission. You will be reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager and will be responsible for assisting with a variety of programs and administrative tasks and projects to support the agency’s efficient and smooth functioning. This position will assist the Programs and Office Administrator, Programs Team Leads, and the Senior Leadership Team.

You have some experience working with children and youth and / or adult volunteers and an understanding of social services offered in the Lower Mainland. You have a willingness to learn, an
interest in expanding your knowledge in the non-profit sector, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Position Summary:

The Youth Recreational and Leisure Activities Program Coordinator will conceptualize, plan, host, and evaluate youth-focused activities for Big Sisters’ mentees and, where applicable, mentors. A range of activities are possible, from sports/hikes, to crafts, to a book club, to week-long camps throughout the summer. Activities will be hosted in various locations throughout the Lower Mainland.

What you will be doing:

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

  • Prepare event briefs for Marketing & Communications team
  • Support development of event promotion materials for newsletters, social media, & other channels
  • Document activities (photo & video) for future use; ensure media waivers are on file

ACTIVITY / EVENT MANAGEMENT

  • Conceptualize, plan, host, and evaluate youth-focused activities for Mentees & waitlisted youth
  • Provide diverse high-quality social, educational, and recreational opportunities for youth
  • Ensure activities are hosted throughout our service area
  • Supervise participants & ensure wellbeing and safety, development, growth, and skill achievement
  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, incident reports, log books, participant feedback

YOUTH / VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

  • Work with Mentoring Coordinators to engage youth (including waitlisted youth) in planned events/ activities
  • Maintain agility in event/ activity planning to respond to youths’ expressed interests
  • Conduct post-event evaluations, analyze responses, provide reports
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit adult volunteers for events/ activities
  • As needed, assist Project Manager: Power in Prevention with focus groups and other project activities

OTHER

  • Attend Programs Team and staff meetings as required
  • Assist with other Programs and Agency activities as requested
What you bring:
  • Looking to enter post-secondary, currently enrolled or a graduate in the social services field
  • Previous experience working with children and youth an asset
  • Highly organized, mature, self-starter, detail orientated and able to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and work independently
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and databases an asset

This Position:

This position can be full-time, up to 35 hours, or part-time, between 9-12 weeks, we are flexible on the number of hours per week. A Criminal Records Check (including a vulnerable sector search) is required as this is a condition of employment required by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. Applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date. Expected start date of June 17th.
