Job Brief

As part of the Engineering team within our Vancouver office, this role will act as the System Architect for Major Engineering Projects and will be responsible for establishing the technical road map, managing risk, and detailed design requirements for our capital projects.

This role ensures that the major project work of various disciplines across the organization (Mechanical, Electrical, Process) are integrated to support the overall design basis, project goals while achieving full quality and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will provide overall technical expertise in a highly collaborative environment as we work to build gas and fluid handling plants.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in overseeing the full life cycle of projects from concept, through design, construction, and commissioning of industrial scale gas and fluid handling plants along with an Engineering degree and current PEng registration within a Canadian Province. Experience in, hydrogen, oil and gas, electrolysis, or cryogenic systems are a benefit.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage the interface between Engineering and the other disciplines on the project including Project Management, Procurement and Contracts, Construction, and the client team.
  • Ensure that the engineering work on the project is completed on schedule, meets HTEC's quality standards including review meetings and checking procedures, performance is within the baseline hour and material budgets, required deliverables are produced, change management is executed in a timely manner, and Engineering Department Managers are apprised of issues related to their function.
  • Work with Discipline Leads and Engineering Department Managers to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to achieve the engineering schedule commitments and personnel are assigned with appropriate ability.
  • Oversee the technical project set up and provide final review and sign-off on project design basis.
  • Establish design requirements and ensure design output meets design basis.
  • Ensure project is fully compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure design controls are in place and followed; review and approve QMS validation protocols prior to, and after execution.
  • Develop and update engineering design guidelines (systems development).
  • Responsible for technical adequacy of final product.
  • Responsible for overall project design work.
  • Provide technical leadership and peer mentoring.
  • Final sign off on design, risk and quality.
  • Lead and participate in key project design reviews.
  • Support project development; technical scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Responsible for continuous product improvement (research and development)

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience within a Professional Engineering role
  • Strong background in hydrogen or cryogenic gas handling related experience
  • Experience overseeing technically complex projects
  • Degree in Chemical / Process Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience leading and working within cross functional teams
  • Proficient with MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Project)
  • Provides technical oversight of EPC contractors during Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, FEED and Detailed engineering phases where there is substantial multidiscipline engineering scope
  • Supervision and leadership skills (management/leadership experience, ability to direct and influence a team, exceptional performance with regards to all aspects of communication, proven ability to delegate work, good judgment and ability to make good decisions, ability to mentor and steward individuals, effectively deliver performance feedback)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong understanding of multi-discipline engineering delivery
  • Experience working with or for an EPC contractor
  • Must have current PEng registration in Canada
  • Must have valid work authorization in Canada
