Job Brief:

HTEC currently has an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position will be focused on the design and integration of hydrogen technology, and the development of new and innovative systems. An ideal candidate will have a strong degree of initiative, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a dedication to accuracy in their work, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. The person in this position will work closely with project managers, senior engineers and EITs to complete various projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the mechanical design and layout of process piping equipment and systems.
  • Define design criteria, prepare technical specifications packages, and perform technical bid evaluations for equipment procurement including pumps, chillers, compressors, pressure vessels, dispenser units, electrolyzers etc.
  • Prepare or provide input to line lists, equipment lists and MTOs.
  • Make technical choices on designs and provide recommendations on important technical issues.
  • Support, directly supervise, and authenticate the work of junior engineers.
  • Write or review technical memos and reports communicating design decisions, design analyses and other technical information.
  • Participate in on site technical audits and support with technical queries raised during the construction phase.
  • Assist in the on-site commissioning of systems.
  • Prepare or provide support to non-conformances and root cause investigations.
  • Contribute to risk analyses and safety reviews.
  • Develop or review documentation hand-off packages including maintenance and operation manuals and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare record packages including analyses reports, quality records, drawings etc.
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of tools, systems, practices, and procedures within the engineering group.
  • Maintain health, safety and environmental focus to ensure that these elements are embedded in the design and procurement processes.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other team members, stakeholders, project partners, vendors, and contractors.

Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered as a professional engineer in BC
  • 10+ years of experience working as a Professional Engineer in a mechanical or piping design role
  • Excellent written English and excellent communications skills
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the design of process plants
  • Sound knowledge of engineering management systems
  • Experience in the use and generation or procedures and workflows for project execution
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
  • An ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • A commitment to supporting team members and mentoring junior engineers

Assets:

Experience designing or working with:

  • Hydrogen Gas, Nitrogen Gas, or Liquified Gases
  • Compressed gas systems (> 200 bar)
  • Cryogenic and refrigeration equipment
  • Compression fittings and pressure vessels
  • Pipe stress analysis software
