We are seeking a Director of Development . You are a passionate and seasoned fundraising professional with a strategic mindset and proven leadership abilities, possessing extensive experience in fundraising execution and strategy development. Reporting to the VP, Development and Communications, you will play a crucial role in building and sustaining relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders, launching fundraising initiatives, and securing sustainable funding to support TR Canada's mission. As the Director of Development, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team, managing a lean development team, and ensuring the alignment of departmental goals with our organizational objectives.
This position can be hybrid or remote with some travel required.
Lead the planning and execution of corporate partnerships, fundraising campaigns, events, grants, and initiatives to engage donors and raise awareness of TR Canada's work.
Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and government agencies to secure financial support for TR Canada's programs and initiatives.
Establish and achieve annual fundraising targets and KPIs that align with TR Canada’s strategic goals, fostering a culture of accountability and impact-driven results within the development team.
Develop and oversee the budget for the Development Department, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to maximize fundraising potential and maintain financial stewardship.
Work closely with senior leadership to align development strategies with organizational objectives, ensuring fundraising efforts support TR Canada’s mission in meaningful, measurable ways.
Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to identify funding opportunities, grant prospects, and strategic partnerships to advance TR Canada's objectives.
Partner with program and communications teams to develop and communicate impactful stories of TR Canada’s mission in action, helping to translate fieldwork into compelling donor engagement materials.
Manage and oversee all aspects of the development functions, including donor communications, gift processing, and database management.
Grow, lead, mentor, and inspire the development team—both staff and volunteers—fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Provide guidance and support to develop team members in the office and in the field—staff and volunteers—ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
Stay informed about trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements in philanthropy, fundraising, and nonprofit management.
Bachelor’s degree (in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field), advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, development, or philanthropy roles, with a proven track record of leadership and strategic thinking, preferably in a major urban environment.
Proven track record of leading comprehensive development strategy development and execution.
Proven track record of corporate giving and partnerships and major gifts success for budgets over $2 million.
Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
Strong proficiency in strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Professional experience with CRM and Asana Project Management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Access to a stable internet connection for hybrid work environment.
Occasional travel, including overnight travel across North America.
Fluency in Canada’s Official Languages an asset.
