Homicide Counsel

The Bronx District Attorney is committed to serving the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community through the Office’s groundbreaking mission of “Pursuing Justice with Integrity” by fulfilling our duty to victims and providing fairness to defendants. We are looking for a diverse staff that reflects the community we serve. The Homicide Bureau is composed of some of the most seasoned and experienced prosecutors working in one of the busiest offices in the country. While the Bronx accounts for 16% of the population of the City of New York, it saw 31% of the Homicides in 2021. With the increase in violence and homicides in the Bronx, we are currently seeking an experienced trial attorney to join the Homicide Bureau as Homicide Counsel. Prosecutors with a minimum of ten years experience and seven Homicide trials as first chair, will be considered. Reporting to the Chief of Homicide, with latitude for independent judgment, Homicide Counsel handle high-profile, challenging, complex, and sensitive cases from investigation through trial as well as serve as a mentor to junior ADAs in the bureau.

1. Prosecute homicides from investigation through trial
2. Serve rotations of 24-hour on-call duty
3. Respond to crime scenes
4. Conduct witness and/or defendant interviews
5. Draft search warrants, trap and traces, and cell site orders
6. Present homicide cases to the grand jury
7. Establish and maintain relationships with witnesses and surviving families
8. Mentor less experienced ADAs in the bureau
9. Handle high-profile cases with media attention
10. Handle cases with challenging witnesses and/or challenging defendants
11. Handle a high-volume caseload efficiently and effectively
12. All other duties as assigned

1. Juris Doctor degree required
2. Minimum of ten years of criminal trial experience
3. Minimum of seven homicide trials
4. Member in good standing of the NY State Bar, evidenced by provision of an original current certificate of good standing
5. Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics
6. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
7. Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information
8. Ability to analytically solve issues or problems from inception through conclusion
9. Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment and handle a high volume of cases
10. Ability to work nights, holidays and weekends as needed

U.S. citizenship and New York State residency are required as of first day of employment.
