The Opportunity

Wolf Midstream is looking for a Director of Information Technology (IT) Services. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Legal and Corporate Services, this position will be responsible for leading our IT Services team and optimizing IT’s alignment with business initiatives. The Director will spearhead our IT strategy and operations across the Wolf platform to enhance the team’s capabilities to support company growth, elevate the way we work, help protect our assets, and mitigate risk. The ideal candidate will not only have the technical background but have superior communication skills to engage with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders -- from the executive team and the Board of Directors to external vendors. The Director of IT Services will be based out of the Calgary head office. Some travel to Wolf’s field offices and sites in Fort Saskatchewan, Sturgeon, Conklin, and Marianna Lake will be required from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the IT Services team’s evolution, aligning its capabilities and team structure with the company's growth objectives. This will include the development and implementation of systems that are service oriented and deliver the functionality needed to meet changing business needs
  • Drive and define the company’s information technology infrastructure, operations, business systems, information security, and data governance strategies that are aligned with the business.
  • Make crucial infrastructure decisions to ensure technical excellence and scalability in collaboration with the senior management team
  • Grow and mature the IT Services team through strategic leadership, fostering a culture of innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement
  • Develop and maintain strong trusted relationships with the business
  • Oversee the strategic development, implementation, and continuous refinement of our cybersecurity framework to protect IT and OT environments, incorporating data governance and information management practices
  • Manage IT related risks and oversee cybersecurity initiatives, ensuring the company's digital and data assets are secure against threats
  • Direct and enhance our cyber incident management, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery planning efforts, ensuring timely response capabilities and minimal disruption to operations
  • Develop and manage annual and quarterly IT budgets, vendor relationships, and technology investments to support growth and business objectives
  • Advise on relevant new technologies and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and performance

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Post secondary education in the areas of Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Data Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience building enterprise-wide IT departments, with a proven track record in maturing IT teams and capabilities, preferably in the energy sector
  • Relevant certifications in areas such as project management, data governance, enterprise architecture, change management, cyber security would be beneficial

Skills:

  • Ability to lead and define the company’s IT strategy in a pragmatic manner that aligns with the business
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-pressure situations and crisis, with experience in cyber incident management, BCP, and DRP
  • Demonstrated expertise in data governance, cybersecurity, automation, and digital transformation initiatives to reduce risk, improve data quality and improve efficiency
  • Ability to lead complex IT projects and change management across businesses and various stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities, capable of nurturing a culture of continuous improvement
  • Business and stakeholder focused mindset committed to operational excellence and service delivery
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a history of engaging effectively with executive team, board of directors and diverse, cross-functional teams and business partners
  • Strong business acumen and proven ability to communicate complex IT concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience:

  • Extensive experience leading and building a high performing IT team to scale up with company growth
  • End to end strategic planning and implementation experience including risk, benefit, and opportunity analysis
  • Demonstrated experience leading various projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Experience overseeing architecture and business systems for enterprise-wide platforms as well as a broad range of other areas within IT such as infrastructure, cybersecurity, IT compliance, data governance, and aligning IT/OT environments
  • Familiarity with the energy sector and industry specific systems (Midstream sector) would be an asset
