SK Films Inc. is seeking an experienced and proactive Director of Finance and Business Affairs to lead the financial and business operations of the company. This critical role demands a strategic thinker with a strong background in accounting and financial management within the film and television industry. The Director will oversee financial planning, reporting, film financing, contract management, tax incentives, and distribution agreements, ensuring the company's financial success and compliance. The ideal candidate will have the expertise to collaborate closely with senior leadership, manage complex financial operations, and optimize business performance through strategic financial decisions.
Business Affairs and Film Financing
Collaborate with the Managing Director and VP of Creative to support content creation and business strategies, including the development of pitch materials and project financial planning.
Provide expertise in applying for and estimating tax credits (provincial and federal) to optimize the company’s financial position.
Film Production and Development Financial Management
Work with producers and production accountants to develop detailed budgets, cash flow projections, cost reports, and provide ongoing financial analysis throughout the development and production phases.
Oversee the effective planning, receipt, and utilization of tax credits and government incentives, working directly with CRA auditors when necessary.
Stay up to date on regulatory changes, ensuring that the company remains compliant with tax credit and incentive programs.

Film Distribution Accounting
Track and forecast revenue performance for the company’s film library, collaborating with the VP of Sales and Marketing to maximize returns.
Maintain an organized and comprehensive records management system for all contracts, distribution agreements, and critical financial documents.
Monitor and report on distribution expenses, ensuring they are accurately allocated across all projects.
Ensure timely payment of all outstanding monies owed to SK Films, overseeing invoicing, purchase orders, and reconciliations, in collaboration with part time bookkeeper.

Corporate Financial Management and Business Analysis
Prepare and present monthly project cash flows, revised financial projections, and key financial insights to the CEO.
Lead the preparation of corporate financial statements, including quarterly internal reports for the CEO and annual reports for corporate accountants.
Manage cash flow, corporate investments, and the company’s financial liquidity to ensure financial stability.
Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely disbursements to employees.
Maintain strong relationships with the company’s banking partners, corporate accountants, and other financial service providers.
The Director of Finance and Business Affairs reports directly to the CEO of SK Films
This role supervises one part-time bookkeeper, ensuring that all financial records are accurately maintained.
The Director of Finance works closely with the Managing Director, and the VP of Sales and Marketing, collaborating to ensure financial strategies align with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
Regular communication with senior leadership and external stakeholders and clients is expected to keep the CEO and other key personnel informed about financial performance and strategic initiatives.

4-6 years of accounting/financial experience, with a preference for 2 years in film and television finance.
~ Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
~ Extensive knowledge of provincial and federal tax credits, including CAVCO requirements.
~ Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and advanced Excel skills.


Exceptional accuracy and reliability in financial reporting and accounting.
Highly analytical, with a strategic mindset for business affairs and financial management.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
In-depth understanding of the film industry’s financial landscape, including production financing, distribution, and tax incentives.
