FIREFLY is seeking a full-time Positive Behaviour Interventionist to work in our Kenora FIREFLY location.

Do you have experience in early childhood development and have an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder? Are you interested in working in a team environment with other professionals such as psychologists, pediatricians, occupational therapists, rehab assistants, dieticians, behaviour therapists, mental health counsellors, and others?

Reporting to the Clinical Manager and working under the guidance of a Senior Clinician, the Positive Behaviour Interventionist is responsible for working directly with children/youth with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Positive Behaviour Interventionist provides evidence‐based interventions as outlined in the child/youth’s Behaviour Plan. The Positive Behaviour Interventionist may also provide Family Services and Supports, primarily parent-direct services, as part of their role. Positive Behaviour Interventionists will work across a variety of settings such as homes, schools, and community spaces, and as such, must possess strong communication, collaboration, and independence skills. Services provided are family-centred and each family is seen as a partner in supporting the child/youth while participating in services and supports. The Positive Behaviour Interventionist will work with clinical direction and clinical coaching from a BCBA or Psychological Associate. Administrative direction and assignments are provided by the Clinical Manager.

FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization located in Northwestern Ontario that has recently been designated a Children’s Treatment Centre. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-school and child care settings. Key Job Functions:

  • To understand and implement the recommendations from the behaviour programs established by the supervising BCBA.
  • Clearly communicate in written and verbal means to the supervising BCBA to keep them informed of client progress and development.
  • Maintain documentation and data records in accordance with agency policy and procedure to support the client's behaviour plan.
  • Provides individualized approach to engaging families, staff and community partners based on cultural/social/emotional needs.
  • Flexibility in work patterns and travel to meet client/agency needs.
  • May support clients/families in the following ways: transitioning from one activity to another, functional routines, communication, play and social interactions, learning and attention and behavioral self-management.
  • Identifies challenges, gaps or barriers and productively engages in solution‐based discussions with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Accepts and makes changes in support of agency initiatives.
  • Operates from a group perspective (demonstrates respect for team and agency processes).
  • Recognizes the value of diversity within the workplace and strives to contribute to a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace environment.
  • Deals proactively with interpersonal or personal matters that could affect own performance or performance of the team.
  • Fulfills responsibility for agreements made in collaborative arrangements or team meetings.

  • Carries out duties in accordance with program guidelines, legislation and standards of the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board and the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development.
  • Experience in early childhood development and an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Enjoys working with children and youth, is creative, and has great play skills.
  • Experience working with children who may present with challenging behaviours.
  • Exceptional communication and engagement skills and experience with children and youth with ASD and their families.
  • Strong knowledge of the community and demonstrates the ability and willingness to collaborate with community partners.
  • Flexibility and creativity to deliver in‐home, school and/or community supports related to the child’s success across environments.
  • Reliable in sharing the right information at the right time with the right people (which includes risk management, up to date documenting in the child/youth’s electronic record, and data for the purpose of service delivery and funder accountabilities).
  • Requires the ability to travel between service delivery sites in both urban and rural settings.
  • Ability to communicate, oral and written, in both official languages is an asset.
