Salary range: $74,618 to $107,264. Interior Health establishes salaries within the minimum and maximum of the salary range based on consideration of the qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Coordinator, Protection Services Training is a key member of the Protection Services leadership team that reports to the Manager, Protection Services Operations. The Coordinator is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and delivering a comprehensive training program for Interior Health’s (IH) Relational Security Model (RSM) that supports the professional and effective delivery of patient-centric health care security services. The RSM training program shall be based on healthcare security best practices, complement BC’s Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum, and incorporate principles of Trauma Informed Care, Mental Health awareness, and Cultural Safety.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop, deliver and maintain Protection Services personnel training and development programs; conduct needs assessments; identify training needs; develop and/or customize training courses, content and materials; oversee and deliver training; evaluate effectiveness; and make adjustments as necessary to improve training and outcomes.
  2. Conduct and facilitate training sessions, presenting information clearly and concisely to various audiences.
  3. Maintain training records and compile routine and ad hoc reports around Protection Services personnel training.
  4. Forecast training needs and establish an annual training schedule.
  5. Establish and maintain templates for post orders and site orientation checklists.
  6. Provide support in managing operating and capital budgets for the assigned area of responsibility, including budget preparation, control, and reporting of expenditures, ensuring the efficient utilization of financial resources, and adherence to established budgets.
  7. Identify and maintain a list of external agencies delivering Basic Security Training, Advanced Security Training, and Occupational First Aid training throughout the region.
  8. Ensure that laws and regulations applicable to training standards are reviewed and changes are implemented as necessary.
  9. Prepare compliance reports and identify areas for improvement associated with specific policies, practices, and procedures.
  10. Develop and implement a method of measuring the effectiveness of the training programs.
  11. Work closely with Workplace Health & Safety to ensure Protection Services training aligns with and complements the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum.
  12. Obtain and maintain applicable training certifications.
  13. As a member of the Protection Services leadership team, provide after hours on-call function, as required.
  14. In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.
  15. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:
  1. Grade 12 diploma plus specialized training in security & safety, criminology, emergency management, or other related field.
  2. Five (5) years of supervisory and/or management experience in security/safety related role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience an asset). Including three (3) years experience providing training, preferably in a healthcare security setting.
  3. Membership with IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety).
  4. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.

  9. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Effective interpersonal skills.
  10. The ability to successfully interact with key internal and external agencies and partners.
  11. Valid Canadian driver's license equivalent to a BC Class 5 driver's license without any graduated licensing restrictions.
  12. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
