True North Log & Timber Homes is a leading manufacturer of high-quality log and timber homes. We are dedicated to excellence in craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Operations to join our team and drive our operational success.

Position Overview:

The Director of Operations is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all aspects of True North Log & Timber Homes daily operations. This role provides strategic and operational support to all departments and plays a key role in working with the Leadership Group to identify and develop strategies and processes designed to continuously improve company operations and achieve business goals and targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Manage and provide direction to the Plant Manager, Design Manager, and Project Manager.
  • Coach, train, and motivate employees to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
  • Approve time-off requests and evaluate employee performance.
  • Provide day-to-day operational direction and leadership across all departments.
  • Make critical decisions regarding procedures, planning, and financial strategies.
  • Address and resolve internal/external inquiries and requests.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Group on the development and implementation of the annual budget and operating plans.
  • Oversee Health and Safety compliance and initiatives.
  • Attend management meetings with the Leadership Group.
  • Make hiring, disciplinary, and termination decisions.
  • Make necessary purchases for the company up to $5,000.

Operational Duties:

  • Provide an open door for employees and managers to bring forward operational concerns.
  • Review production concerns daily with the Plant Manager and conduct weekly production meetings.
  • Organize and prepare the production schedule to fulfill customer projects.
  • Perform weekly job status reports with the sales team.
  • Conduct bi-weekly sales forecasting with the Sales Manager.
  • Plan meetings with the Design Manager and Project Manager to ensure efficient project management.
  • Review and sign-off on employee timesheets.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Controller.
  • Conduct monthly Health and Safety meetings and inspections.
  • Identify training gaps and arrange for employee training.
  • Resolve major customer complaints.
  • Oversee recruitment projects to fill labor or talent shortages.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Oversee the coordination of company events.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • University degree or post-secondary diploma in Operations Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in an operations role within the production/manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in planning and managing production schedules.
  • Broad financial acumen in budgeting and forecasting.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Business Central
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of office equipment (printer, photocopier, scanner, fax machine).
  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses for capital improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with simultaneous deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and listening skills.
  • Ability to manage performance and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to assist in other areas when needed.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based (Factory) with occasional outdoor work in yard/factory areas.
  • Extended periods of sitting and frequent use of office equipment.
  • High level of concentration required due to attention to detail and multiple demands.
