The Director of Community Life is responsible to lead and integrate Residence Life and Commuter Life. The Director provides leadership and support to the Residence Director, Commuter Life team, Seminary Student Leadership Team, and student leadership development initiatives.
Body
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide vision and leadership to Residence Life, Commuter Life, and the student body to create an environment that promotes positive community life, whole person development, and student thriving.
- Serve as the advisor for the Seminary Student Leadership Team and participate in Seminary community building events as appropriate.
- Ensure that educationally meaningful programs are planned and implemented, underpinned by pertinent Student Life theory to complement in-class learning and other Student Life and Spiritual Life programs.
- Meet with the Resident Director, Senior Commuter Leader, and Seminary Student Leadership Team separately on a regular basis.
- In collaboration with the Director of Spiritual Life and Campus Pastor, ensure Residence Life programs include faith formation practices that align with and complement the Spiritual Life program.
- Lead student conduct investigations and the accountability process for the undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Plan and implement student leadership training and steward the student leadership hiring process.
- Manage budgets in areas of responsibility.
- Assess program effectiveness and student belonging, involvement, engagement, and thriving.
- Participate in cross-functional teams as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Master’s degree in higher education, student development, or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership overseeing student development programs or equivalent.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and student information systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong program development and implementation skills.
- Able to provide effective leadership to multiple program areas, student development, and program administration.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Able to exercise independent judgement, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Able to maintain effective working relationships in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong relational skills.
- Able to effectively respond to sensitive inquiries, complaints, and issues.
