We are looking for a hands-on Lab Technician with a passion for R&D, significant bench experience and knowledge of good laboratory practices. This position will report to the Senior Research Scientist and will work in collaboration with other team members to achieve their objectives. They must be comfortable with data collection and analysis, equipment and chemical management, quality control, procedure writing and cell culture maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Media Preparation: Prepare media, buffers, and reagents accurately and efficiently, following established protocols.
Research and Development Experimental Support: Assist researchers in conducting experiments by preparing materials, reagents, and equipment, and providing technical support as needed.
Cell Culture Maintenance: Cultivate and maintain various cell lines in adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring cell viability, purity, and sterility.
Documentation: Record experimental procedures, observations, and results meticulously.
Data Collection and Analysis: Assist in data analysis and interpretation under the guidance of senior researchers.
Quality Control: Perform routine quality control checks on laboratory equipment, reagents, and cell cultures to maintain consistency and reliability in experimental outcomes.
Lab Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory space, including decontamination and disinfection. Manage the disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
Chemical management – Manage the procurement, inventory, and incoming inspection of all chemicals and lab supplies. Ensure we manage the chemicals according to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
Equipment management – Manage the calibration and maintenance program for all lab equipment and ensuring timelines are met and accuracy of records.
As the Biosafety Officer, ensures compliance with Public Health Agency fo Canada (PHAC) and applicable government legislation (e.g. HPTA – Human Pathogens and Toxins Act and Regulations). Perform biological inventory in order to comply with the Canadian Biosafety Guidelines.
Document accident and incident investigations as per health and safety policies and procedures.
Support the Quality Director with the creation of documentation related to laboratory procedures, testing procedures and work instructions.
Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other team members, including scientists, technicians, and interns, to achieve project objectives and deadlines.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest developments and advancements in biotechnology and cell culture techniques through literature review, seminars, and training sessions.

Education and Work Experience
Essential:
College diploma lab technology; with focus on chemistry or biology.
Ideally, a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in chemical handling, cell culture techniques, including aseptic handling, passaging, and cryopreservation.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced research environment.
Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records.
Proficiency in using laboratory equipment such as laminar flow hood, biosafety cabinets, centrifuges, microscopes, and cell counters.
Willing to work in a clean room environment and follow medical device good manufacturing procedures (GMP)

Skills Required:
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively.
Commitment to laboratory safety practices and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Experience with collaborative platforms such as Microsoft Office and Teams.
Time management and problem-solving skills are required.
Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
An ability to adapt learning to incorporate new technologies.
High level of professionalism and ability to work within a team.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
