Lifeguard Team Lead

Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, in this role you will be responsible for supervising and leading a team of lifeguards, providing training and guidance, and maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for the YMCA members. Your attention to detail, strong leadership skills, and commitment to safety will contribute to the overall success of our aquatics programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of lifeguards to ensure the safety of all individuals in the aquatic facility.
  • Provide training and guidance to lifeguards on safety procedures, emergency response, and customer service.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the pool area and equipment to identify and address any potential hazards.
  • Respond to emergencies and perform water rescues as necessary, while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all members.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, rescues, and other relevant information.
  • Manage lifeguards schedule and update safety protocols.
  • Provide excellent customer service to members by answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Collaborate with Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Programs Team Lead, and other team members to promote and provide a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
  • Open the pool facility according to established procedures, ensuring all safety checks are completed before the facility is opened to the public.
  • Cover lifeguards shifts as required.
  • Teach aquatics programs.

Qualifications:

• Current Standard First Aid & CPR C

• National Lifeguard Certification

• Lifesaving Society, or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification

• WHMIS & AED is an asset

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

• 2-year experience in an aquatic setting; YMCA experience is an asset

• Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check as per the Association’s policy

Position Status:Full-time with benefits and a complimentary YMCA membership

Hours:30-40 hours/week, mornings. This position is in charge of opening the pool and assisting the lifeguard on duty.
