The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for the policies, legislation, regulations, programs, and services that enable Alberta's agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta's economic recovery and growth. Role Responsibilities

The Director of Infrastructure Technical Services leads and manages the strategic direction and operational execution of technical services related to infrastructure within the Ministry of Technology and Innovation. This role is critical in ensuring that infrastructure projects are delivered effectively, efficiently, and align with the Ministry's strategic goals.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and managing a team of technical professionals to deliver high-quality water infrastructure projects.
  • Developing and implementing strategic and operational plans for dam safety regulation, water infrastructure operations and maintenance.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Managing budgets and financial planning for infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify and address water infrastructure needs.
  • Overseeing the procurement process for water infrastructure-related services and equipment.
  • Support policy development and consistent implementation of Dam and Canal Safety Regulatory Framework in Alberta.
  • Implementing best practices in project management, safety and risk management, emergency management and quality assurance.
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and strategic vision to drive the Ministry's infrastructure initiatives forward.

Qualifications
  • University graduation in a related field such as Civil and Environmental Engineering.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in water infrastructure project management, including leadership experience.
Equivalencies will be considered.

Further Requirements for the Role:
  • Proven ability in strategic planning and execution.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of water infrastructure development and maintenance e.g., dams and canals.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Assets:
  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Eng, PMP).
  • Experience in public sector water infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with government structures and processes.
