Reporting to the Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the incumbent facilitates the delivery of a range of courses related to Indigenous Studies onsite at the Belleville campus. the incumbent will use a two-eyed seeing approach to facilitate a review of current pedagogical approaches and curriculum. They will weave Indigenous knowledge and experiences into programming and open education resources to ensure that the Calls to Action are addressed by Loyalist College.

The incumbent will work collaboratively to create professional development programming for faculty. The incumbent will be expected to take on teaching assignments and co-teach with colleagues to present Indigenous knowledge, history, and culture for the benefit of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

The incumbent identifies as being of Indigenous heritage including First Nations, Metis or Inuit (as a bona fide occupational requirement, under Section 24(1) of the Ontario Human Rights Code

PROFESSOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implements a range of delivery strategies, which complements the varied learning styles represented in a current college classroom and encourages a cooperative learning climate, incorporating evidence-based practice and best practice guidelines
• Develops and implements course learning outcomes and assessment strategies, ensuring program goals and current vocational standards are reflected
• Defines, evaluates, and validates learning outcomes for courses and programs, ensuring that students are aware of relevant learning outcomes, strategies, and assessment techniques
• Supports student progress in assigned courses through individual tutorial and academic counseling
• Engages in ongoing faculty development opportunities and effectively liaises with colleagues and other College and community and industry partners to maintain a collaborative and relevant learning environment
• Contributes to program development by participating in the Provincial Program Review processes
• Assists in program awareness and program recruitment activities
• Incorporates appropriate technological tools that support the learning environment

Teaching & Learning Responsibilities
• Provides mentorship to faculty with regard to their teaching practice in relation to the Indigenous Learning Outcomes framework
• Participates in college-wide initiatives related to Indigenous education, program quality assurance and professional development activities.
• Supports the ongoing development of learning-centred practices across the academic programming in the Schools at the College
• Assists individual faculty and program teams with on-going development, documentation, review and mapping of curriculum, teaching and assessment practices in relation to the Indigenous Learning Outcomes framework
• Works with faculty and staff to identify tools, best practices and resources to support teaching and learning.
• Works with academic administration to disseminate and encourage further adoption of relevant Indigenous resources and practices College-wide.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A relevant combination of education and experience, normally acquired through completion of a degree majoring in Indigenous Studies, Social Justice, Education or related field with five (5) years recent and relevant post-secondary teaching experience. A Master’s degree in a related field would be considered an asset
• A commitment to excellence in educational delivery demonstrated through experience in a variety of teaching and learning environments would be preferred
• Knowledge about specific Indigenous Nations, history, and ways of knowing
• Knowledge of a traditional Indigenous language would be considered an asset
• An excellent grounding in Indigenous educational best practices and emerging trends such as the Two-Eyed seeing framework
• Experience with decolonizing curriculum at the post-secondary level and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with professors across all Schools to assist in their decolonial efforts
• An ability to develop and review appropriate curriculum that conveys the current knowledge,
skills and attitudes that are aligned with the Indigenous Education Strategy and best practices in the field
• Knowledge of current programming within the Schools as well as potential programs based on industry demand, community engagement, and global market forecasts
• Demonstrated ability to create a safe and inclusive space that meets the learning needs of a diverse student population
• Demonstrated ability to envision, design, and execute creative and stimulating learning activities, coupled with the capacity to develop comprehensive curriculum frameworks that cater to diverse learning styles and academic needs
• Demonstrated understanding of the principles of adult learning along with experience teaching adult learners and developing curriculum; previous teaching experience particularly in the college environment is an asset
• Proven track record of peer support, collaboration and leadership with evidence of mentoring, coaching and training of faculty
• Exceptional organizational and project management skills to take a project from an initial idea through to delivery
• High level of adaptability, strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution, stress management and resiliency
• Computer literacy and a willingness to learn and utilize a variety of learning technologies to support student success and the learning environment
• The incumbent identifies as being of Indigenous heritage including First Nations, Metis or Inuit (as a bona fide occupational requirement, under Section 24(1) of the Ontario Human Rights Code and may be requested to provide information to verify Indigenous identity if invited to an interview
