Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Position: Configuration Management Specialist

You will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Configuration Management functions in assigned projects/products, to assure consistency in application of Configuration Management principles and change control processes over the lifecycle of a project/product.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Implement the Configuration Management system for the project/product.
  2. Ensure consistency of information in the configuration management system for the project/product.
  3. Participate in the analysis of contractual requirements for Configuration Management, prepare cost and time estimates during the bid and major project phases, and identify associated risks.
  4. Describe, implement, and maintain the fundamental activities within the relevant Configuration Management Plan including Configuration Management and Planning; Configuration Identification; Configuration Control; Configuration Status Accounting; Configuration verification and audit.
  5. Manage the implementation of the PLM system for configuration management of the project/product including analysis of requirements; system configuration; customization; data loading and end-user training.
  6. Provide technical leadership and solve complex problems as required.
  7. Participate in the creation of Product Breakdown Structure (PBS).
  8. Establish Configuration Management (CM) baselines such as FBL, ABL or PBL.
  9. Perform Functional Configuration Audit (FCA), Physical Configuration Audit (PCA), Software Configuration Audits (SCA) and software build verification on software releases.
  10. Ensure proper use of PLM system and end-to-end implementation of the CM practices on the assigned Project/Product as well as coach project team members on CM principles and use of PLM.
  11. Provide support services to resolve configuration management issues during product and project lifecycles; escalate and complete (as much as possible) corrective actions in a timely fashion.
  12. Maintain consistency of information in the configuration management system for the project/product both in Country of Origin (COO) and Country of Destination (COD).
  13. Specify to sub-contractors and suppliers the CM requirements through Statement of Work and ensure follow-up of compliance to those requirements.
  14. Liaise with other Hitachi Rail unit CM personnel involved in the project as well as with subcontractors/suppliers regarding project CM-related issues.
  15. Contribute to the improvement initiatives of CM procedures and tools and overall development of the discipline, coaching peers and new tool end-users.
  16. Provide leadership to drive organizational change, particularly partnering with engineering departments to provide advice and guidance for the adoption of new processes.
  17. May coordinate Configuration Administrators of the organization for the execution of the CM system while being responsible and accountable for the consistency of the related perimeter configuration information.
Required Skills and Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  2. A minimum of 5 years' experience in monitoring Systems, Software/Hardware development through a direct role in CM, within Engineering or transverse.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  1. Working experience with PLM systems (preferred Windchill/Palma).
  2. Extensive knowledge and experience of CM practices and principles.
  3. Experience with CM software and hardware and development processes.
  4. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Familiarity with commercial version control and problem reporting tools.
  6. Railway Industry experience (or similar) with understanding of the context for the job function: complex system development.
  7. Knowledge of any of the following would be an asset: Microsoft Access, Visual Studio, DOORS, ClearCase/GIT, ClearQuest/JIRA, ERP (SAP).
  8. Good written and verbal communication skills to allow effective communication with both technical and non-technical teams.
