Mercer Canada is seeking a Senior Defined Contribution Retirement Consultant for our Montreal office.

What can you expect?

As a Consultant in our DC Retirement team, you will deliver a full range of services to institutional clients who sponsor or intend to set up a group retirement savings plan.

  • This role consists of working with plan sponsors to design their DC plans, select and monitor record keepers, structure investment options offered to participants, select and monitor fund managers, and oversee the continued improvement of sound plan management and plan governance.
  • The Consultant in this role is expected to lead efforts to market and expand Mercer’s defined contribution relationships and commercial success with clients and prospects beyond investment consulting to include plan strategy support including consulting on financial wellness, retirement readiness and building robust governance practices.
  • The Consultant will be expected to lead and develop a number of mid-sized to large sized clients as the primary consultant. Mercer’s DC Retirement consulting team uses a full suite of proprietary tools in the delivery of these services.
  • The Consultant also manages and develops analysts on internal client teams to ensure operational excellence and efficiency, and participates in promoting Mercer services and solutions to existing clients.

We will count on you to:

  • Act as primary consultant for a number of mid-sized to large-size clients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of defined contribution plans and their way of functioning, including regulatory and governance aspects.
  • Actively participate to pension committee meetings and other client meetings cycle from the preparation to the presentation of our reports, findings and recommendations.
  • Discuss financial wellness strategies with clients and prospects.
  • Support and advise companies in integrating ESG factors into their policies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in core investment strategies and support plan sponsors in selecting the appropriate investment structure and investment strategies.
  • Develop relationships to continue supporting the commercial success and expansion of Mercer’s services.
  • Peer review reports, adding client specific information and ensuring client suitability.
  • Manage client related assignments and ensure on time delivery.
  • Manage a variety of projects independently.
  • Manage and mentor junior-level staff.

What you need to have:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or other business-related areas with strong quantitative and analytical course content.
  • The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to successfully interact with clients and prospects.
  • Experience in client relationship management.
  • A minimum of 10 years of work experience with Defined Contribution plans in the capacity of plan sponsor, consultant or relationship manager with a record keeper.
  • Superior communication (English and French) and project management skills.
  • Good knowledge of the institutional investment industry, understanding of investment concepts and the financial markets.
  • As required by financial markets regulators, group annuity plans advisor designation or enrollment to achieve the certification within your first year will be expected.
