We are seeking an experienced GIS/CAD Specialist to join our Environmental Services team. This role can be based out of any of our Western Canadian offices (Burnaby, Fort St. John, Sherwood Park, Calgary, or Swift Current). For the right candidate, a remote work arrangement is also an option. The successful candidate will provide technical support by creating reporting figures for Stage/Phase 1 and Stage/Phase 2 environmental site assessments, analyzing report data, entering data into the AutoCAD system, and generating report figures.

The GIS/CAD Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to the Environmental Services team. Operating in a diverse and competitive environment, the GIS/CAD specialist will take a client-centred approach to perform work with a high standard of excellence, ensuring health & safety is always a priority. The focus on team collaboration, client service and delivery will drive successful client outcomes for continued growth and success. The GIS/CAD Specialist will always perform work and ensure adherence to FLINT’s core values and exemplary ethical standards.

What would you be doing?

  • Perform and engage in the following activities:
    • Conduct spatial analysis.
    • Produce maps.
    • Enter field data.
  • Understand and use AutoCAD to:
    • Create 2 Dimensional (2D) and 3 Dimensional (3D) models.
    • Manipulate historical aerial photos.
    • Complete groundwater modelling diagrams, drill plans and risk maps.
  • Create reporting figures for
    • Stage/Phase 1, Stage/Phase 2 environmental site assessments and multi-staged remediation diagrams.
    • Pipeline Schedule A diagrams and edit general drawings/drafting documents.
  • Review and analyze field data, such as field notes, sketches, borehole logs, etc., to produce accurate report figures.
  • Generate new and review existing GPS coordinates for various maps and work plans.
  • Precisely edit data through digitization, scanning, and conversion processes.
  • Generate precise reports that fulfill reporting criteria.
  • Transcribe data from source documents following standardized procedures.
  • Collaborate with other members of the ES team, such as Project Managers, Project Coordinators, field employees and report writers, to ensure the accuracy of the deliverables.
  • Adhere to established quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Administrative duties, including claims, invoices, and all other paperwork, are done within timelines.
  • Other projects and assignments as required.

Does this sound like you?

  • Technical degree/diploma or equivalent in a related discipline. (Environmental Science, Computer Science, Geography, Geoscience, Engineering).
  • Working knowledge and experience of software programs, including Autodesk and Bentley products, including AutoCAD, GINT and Surfer
  • 3+ years of hands-on drafting-related work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Nitro PDF, Adobe Acrobat and PDF Exchange Editor.
  • Ability to produce 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Environmental Regulations relating to contaminated sites and waste management.
  • Proficiency in planning and control of work in a multi-project, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate and organized documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and build strong relationships.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative and team-orientated mindset.
