Wood’s Homes is looking for one (1) full-time Supervisor (Registered Nurse) for the Nursing Department.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Supervisor is responsible for the overall accountability, promotion, development, and coordination of activities across the department. The primary responsibility of all management positions at Wood’s Homes is to provide strong leadership towards implementation of activities related to being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and demonstrating commitment to the Health and Safety Management System across the organization and within their respective area.

As a working nurse position, the Nurse Supervisor will work in collaboration with agency treatment staff in coordinating, providing, and ensuring quality health care to all clients within the live-in treatment programs. The Nurse will also work with medical, hospital, and community services to provide quality health care support, continuity, education, and follow up for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides Supervision and consultative support to the members of the Nursing Team including but not limited to Registered Nurses and Medical Office Assistants
  • Provides support to leadership in hiring, orientation, and performance evaluation of nursing department staff
  • Supports the overall functioning of health clinics. This involves developing a system for managing medication supplies and the coordination of medication changes, medical records, processing of Critical Medical Incidents, and annual immunization clinics for clients
  • Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health services in a community setting
  • Communication with/involvement of children and families in their physical and mental health care
  • Advocating for client needs at systems meetings
  • In conjunction with health care professionals, clinicians and program staff develops nursing care plans for complex clients based on identified health needs
  • Comprehensive understanding and oversight of Infection Prevention and Control processes
  • Continued development and oversight of Medication Management system
  • Collaborates with both interdisciplinary health care professionals and unlicensed assistive personnel at Wood's Homes to ensure the highest standards of health care are available and provided to all clients; coordinates and documents connections with community resources in providing care to clients.
  • Liaise with external community health services to ensure that clients are linked to appropriate health resources
  • Participates as an active member of the Nursing Advisory Committee
  • Works in accordance with both the Health Professions Act and Policies and Procedures of Wood's Homes.
  • Knowledge of Privacy and Management of Health Information Standards
  • Identifies quality improvement issues and participates in the development and review of policies and procedures as requested by management.
  • Completes all required health and safety training.
  • Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor.
  • Executes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Programs.

Required Qualifications

• Education, Training, Diplomas and Certifications Needed

  • Bachelor of Nursing/ Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required
  • Current Registration and good standing with CRNA or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Alberta required
  • Liability insurance
  • Current CPR- BLS level or higher
  • Full class 5 driver’s license or class 5 GDL driver’s license with $2 million liability insurance
  • Drivers Abstract with no more than 6 demerits
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

• Work Experience Needed

  • 3-5 years of experience working in a mental health, addictions, or public health setting
  • Knowledge of community mental health services
  • Knowledge of DSM-V diagnosis
  • Experience in a leadership or charge nurse position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working in an autonomous role
  • Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and trauma informed care
  • Experience working with children, adolescents and young adults
  • Experience working with Indigenous children and families
