Position Summary:

The Counselling Group (a program offered by Jewish Family Services of Ottawa) is seeking a Counsellor. Fluency in Farsi and/or Dari is required. Comfortable working in-person and in a virtual setting (tele-therapy). Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, the successful candidate(s) will be responsible for direct service provision, which will include conducting client assessments and providing psychotherapy interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides clinical counselling / psychotherapy to clients.
  2. Provides culturally appropriate and language-specific direct service including client assessment, treatment, and referrals.
  3. Provides advocacy and referrals to help clients’ access relevant community services.
  4. Maintains cooperative working relationships with community agencies, schools, courts, child welfare workers, etc.
  5. Ensures quality client care that is consistent with best practices, agency standards, and evidence-based approaches.
  6. Maintains necessary documentation and case records.
  7. Participates in supervision, meetings, workshops (including professional development opportunities).
  8. Performs related work as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications/Experience:

  1. M.S.W., M.Ed. (Counselling) or equivalent degree.
  2. Membership in good standing with the OCSWSSW or CRPO (RSW or RP).
  3. Maintains or is eligible to maintain professional liability insurance through their association.
  4. Experience in working with trauma or willingness to learn how to provide psychotherapy in such cases.
  5. Demonstrated experience providing psychotherapy for at least 1 year.
  6. Knowledge of community resources and host-agent language and culture.
  7. Ability to work flexible hours according to program need with at least one evening per week.
  8. Fluency in Farsi is required. Fluency in Dari is an asset.
  9. Comfortable working in-person and in a virtual setting (tele-therapy).

Additional Preferred Experience:

  1. Possess the lived experience, knowledge, and cultural experiences required to support members of the LGBTQ+ communities.
  2. Possess the lived experience, knowledge, and cultural experiences required to support people who are visible minorities and specifically those from Farsi/Dari speaking communities.
