Mechanical Applications Engineer

Hamilton, Canada Radian Robotics Full time

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Applications Engineer will be required to design intelligent automation systems utilizing robotics for the heavy metals and wood industries. The designer will be required to design machine layouts and tooling concepts in compliance with customer specifications.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Work with the project team, sales, and customers to generate machine layouts under the guidance of the mechanical engineering manager.
  2. Development of new product opportunities.
  3. Participate in project review meetings.
  4. Support Sales with new applications assistance.
  5. Design equipment to meet customer specifications.
  6. Support project installations onsite ensuring they meet overall safety, reliability, and performance.
  7. Assist shop assembly with technical assistance when required.
  8. Travel to wood or metal mills within North America is required.
  9. Use Solidworks to create new designs and communicate ideas.
Qualifications & Experience
  • College or university degree or diploma in mechanical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience with industrial robots is required.
  • Working knowledge of common sensors and other components used in automated systems, as well as applicable machine guarding and safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience in machining, fabrication, or construction is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of fluid power systems, fittings, and components.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience; Solidworks preferred.
  • Typing skills, Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills.
