District Resource Liaison Specialist

Indigenous communities are important contributors to natural and sustainable resource management. As a skilled communicator with a sound grasp of natural resource management, you will use your in-depth knowledge of Indigenous culture and issues to work with Indigenous people, non-Indigenous communities and others on a variety of resource management issues. What can I expect to do in this role?- Build cooperative and effective relationships with local Indigenous communities
- Provide advice, plan and lead Indigenous programs and initiatives
- Promote understanding, co-operation and participation in the ministry's sustainable resource management programs with a focus on lands and resource allocation with communities and other users
- Act as the ministry representative or advisor in resource and issue negotiations with Indigenous communities and associations
- Prepare budget submissions and explore funding options as well as authorize and track expenditures for Indigenous and non-Indigenous programs and initiatives within communities
- Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach initiatives to non-Indigenous communities
- You possess a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
- You have knowledge of Indigenous cultures and related social and economic issues and opportunities in order to conduct informed consultations and engagement with Indigenous communities.
- You understand community development principles, promote and assist in the planning of Indigenous training initiatives and economic development opportunities and provide advice on these matters.
- You can understand and apply resource management policies and procedures.
- You have leadership skills to work with a wide range of stakeholders with differing interests and cultures.
- You possess conflict resolution and facilitation skills to negotiate and build consensus on resource management issues.
- You are adept at developing and maintaining good relationships including those with stakeholders and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
- You have demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in order to provide direction, respond to inquiries and draft items such as briefing notes, reports, presentations and correspondence.
- You can conduct research and analyze information/data to respond to requests and concerns, recommend solutions and provide issues management support.
