Our client in the manufacturing industry is seeking a skilled GitHub Implementation Lead and Administrator to manage the migration and consolidation of multiple GitHub instances into a unified enterprise GitHub platform.

Location:
primarily remote;
Toronto for key planning meetings

Duration:
12 months

This role will oversee the end-to-end process in partnership with the vendor, ensuring adherence to best practices and supporting a large-scale implementation for over 1,000 users. The ideal candidate will bring extensive GitHub expertise, experience in large-scale migrations, and a collaborative mindset to work closely with both internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • GitHub Migration and Consolidation:
    Lead the migration of multiple GitHub instances to a single enterprise-level instance, working closely with the vendor to execute a seamless transition.
  • Best Practices Implementation:
    Design and implement best-practice configurations and standards for the enterprise GitHub instance, including repository organization, security protocols, and access controls.
  • User and Access Management:
    Set up and manage user roles, permissions, and access controls for 1,000+ users, ensuring efficient onboarding and ongoing support.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders:
    Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, and development, to ensure alignment with organizational policies and user needs.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
    Regularly monitor the performance and usage of the GitHub enterprise instance, optimizing configurations for scalability, efficiency, and security.
  • Documentation and Training:
    Develop comprehensive documentation for system configurations, user guides, and best practices. Conduct training sessions as needed to educate teams on the new system.
  • Hybrid Office Presence:
    Attend on-site meetings and planning sessions in the Toronto office as required to collaborate with stakeholders effectively.

Requirements:

  • Experience:
    5+ years of experience in GitHub administration, with a strong background in large-scale instance management and migrations.
  • Technical Expertise:
    In-depth knowledge of GitHub Enterprise, including user management, security configurations, repository administration, and integration with CI/CD tools.
  • Project Management:
    Proven track record in managing complex migrations or consolidations, preferably with experience in working alongside vendors for large-scale implementations.
  • Best Practices Knowledge:
    Expertise in implementing GitHub best practices, including code management, repository structure, and security.
  • Communication Skills:
    Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder management.
  • Optional:
    Certifications:
    GitHub Administration or similar certification.
  • Security Focus:
    Experience with security protocols and access control in enterprise environments.
