VP Merchandising, Product Development and Design

Established in 1946, Beco Industries Ltd. remains a leader in design and development of Home Textiles, Baby Accessories and Furniture products destined for Major retailers across Canada and USA. Known best for its creative and trend acumen, we are looking for an experienced, creative, dynamic, and analytical Vice President of Merchandising, Product Development and Design to join the Executive team.

Job Summary: The Vice President of Merchandising, Product Development, and Design is a key leadership role responsible for driving the strategic vision and execution of the company's merchandising, product development, and design initiatives. This role demands a dynamic leader who is both a strategic thinker and hands-on executor, capable of identifying and capitalizing on white space opportunities, fostering product innovation, and leading high-performing cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will be creative, methodical, personable, and capable of motivating and mobilizing their teams to achieve exceptional results. Experience leading teams and developing product in Home Textiles, Fashion or décor -- destined for major retailers and clubs in the USA and Canada is a MUST.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive merchandising plans, product development initiatives, and design strategies aligned with the company's overall business objectives.
  • Identify and explore white space opportunities to drive product innovation and market differentiation.
  • Lead the team in creating innovative and trend-setting products that meet customer needs and preferences.
  • Collaborate with and support Sales Leadership on key product presentations.
  • Oversee the end-to-end product development process, from concept to commercialization.
  • Collaborate and lead cross-functional teams, including merchandising, design, and product development.
  • Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscape to inform merchandising strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages creativity and excellence.
  • Implement and manage processes and systems to ensure efficient and effective product development and merchandising operations.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Quarterly travel overseas with development and design teams to execute well-thought-out sourcing plans.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Design, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in merchandising, product development, and design, with at least 5 years in an executive merchandising/leadership role in the HOME TEXTILES industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and launching innovative products in a competitive market.
  • Experience collaborating with overseas vendors to partner on development.
  • Extensive experience travelling for product development overseas.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans.
  • Strong hands-on approach with the ability to lead by example.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of product sourcing and costing and reverse engineering as a means to develop targeted product.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills; able to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
  • Highly organized and methodical, with strong project management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in using relevant software and tools for product development and merchandising.
  • Passionate about product innovation and staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Creative and forward-thinking, with a keen eye for design and detail.
  • Results-oriented, with a strong drive for achieving and exceeding goals.
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
