About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Canadian Regional Communications, this role is responsible for providing communications support and counsel for Cenovus’s Upstream and Natural Gas & Technical Services businesses. This dynamic role includes the development and execution of communications plans and activities that align with Cenovus’s business priorities.

The Senior Communications Advisor will build brand presence in our Upstream and Conventional operational regions, lead staff communications, support business strategies, programs and events, using appropriate communications tools and vehicles.

This is a full-time employee position located in our corporate office in Calgary, Alberta.

What you’ll do:

  1. Develop communications strategies that support the goals of our Upstream and Natural Gas & Technical Services functions and support teams that align with company priorities.
  2. Provide strategic counsel to the Upstream and Natural Gas & Technical Services leadership teams.
  3. Write intranet news, spotlights, create pages and contribute to the development of other content as required (e.g., town hall materials, speaking notes for leaders, social media posts).
  4. Build and maintain relationships with internal partners.
  5. Develop site-specific communications plans for key operational projects such as turnarounds, acquisitions and divestitures, project and operational milestones, etc.
  6. Work collaboratively with the Community & Indigenous Affairs Advisor in our relevant operating areas to support their engagement accountabilities, including regional community/social investment activities.
  7. Assist with key regional events including community investment announcements, open houses and tours, as required.
  8. Support the roll-out of strategic/business plans and various initiatives through various communication channels.
  9. Ensure communications materials adhere to the company’s brand and culture.
  10. Measure the effectiveness of communications, where appropriate, and report it back to the business/clients.
  11. Act as a member of the crisis response team.

Who you are:

  1. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  2. Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism.
  3. Minimum eight years of communications experience with a consistent track record as a communication strategist and accomplished implementer of communication plans.
  4. Possess outstanding writing and editing skills; crafts communications aligning client's business needs with goals of the company.
  5. Experience in communicating change, including collaboration with stakeholders.
  6. A relationship builder who has a confident presence and can clearly articulate strategies and concepts. Uses influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.
  7. Crisis communications experience is an asset.
  8. The ability to work independently and as part of a team within Corporate Communications while directly supporting the business.
