The opportunity:

The Site Safety and Environmental Manager manages the Safety/Environmental and Security Department and provides expertise to the facility in the areas of safety, regulatory compliance, industrial hygiene, environmental protection, security, fire protection, emergency response, and ergonomics. As a member of the Plant Staff Management Team, you will set the example for engagement through daily coaching in the shops and active support.

What you will do:

  • carry out regular assessments of the risks at the site, and coordinate prevention plans including the domains of environment, safety, security, sire, industrial hygiene, mechanical integrity, ergonomics, and health;
  • establish and maintain the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management system;
  • organize audits and diagnostics, and lead resulting action plans;
  • for all site projects, ensure that the EHS component is validated at each milestone;
  • assure all regulatory and internal requirements are reviewed and when changes are applicable, draft the instructions for the site and control their implementation;
  • manage all EHS regulatory aspects on the site, assuring reporting is accurate and correct;
  • lead relations with outside agencies and with EHS topics;
  • act as the safety champion and facilitates the safety spokes' functions, provide and carry out EHS awareness and training programs for site personnel;
  • manage the EHS team in their various fields of responsibility;
  • manage the EHS indicators for the site, ensure the quality of the data, and communicate information and significant events to the appropriate levels;
  • during major events, manage the crisis team, conduct protective and restart operations, determine root cause and implement suitable solutions,
  • participate in local and/or provincial community and governmental groups to support facility initiatives and business development; and,
  • coordinate all legal and regulatory responses for EHS matters with the appropriate internal or external legal representatives.

What you will bring:

  • a degree in engineering, business, or related field;
  • 5+ years experience managing a multi-disciplinary team of safety professionals;
  • 10+ years of experience in safety or related function, preferably in an industrial manufacturing environment; and,
  • CRSP or equivalent certification(s)/professional designation(s).
