Who are we looking for?

Our Ontario EDO (Engineering Design Organization) is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to take on the role of Senior Structural Engineer to support our process-driven facilities projects. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience, and contribute to and be responsible for all structural engineering aspects of multi-discipline projects in various markets and businesses.

With a strong diverse background in structural design and delivery of:

  1. Water/Wastewater Treatment
  2. Linear Water
  3. Water resources
  4. Organics Processing
  5. Bulk Storage and Warehouses
  6. Waste Transfer
  7. Renewable Natural Gas
  8. Environmental
  9. Transportation
  10. Property and Buildings

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in the following:

  1. Assist in executing existing and new projects
  2. Ensure timely completion of project deliverables and able to manage several projects at once and determine priorities, including sound judgment and decisiveness
  3. Produce engineering drawings, details, and specifications from conception to final design, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of steel and concrete structures
  4. Work in Design Bid Build and Design Build environments to advance design packages by providing value-added design solutions in conformance with operator requirements and client/end-user specifications
  5. Mentor and supervise CAD staff junior and intermediate engineers, prepare construction specifications, tender and contract packages, and conduct site inspections of existing structures as well as those under construction, as necessary
  6. Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards
  7. Lead technical discussions and efforts in Ontario (and possibly in North America) to improve structural design implementation delivery and efficiency through streamlining design tools, software, procedures, and specifications
  8. Assist in the preparation of effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities
  9. Develop and implement QA/QC processes for project work
What you will bring to the team?

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario
Minimum 10-15 years of diverse structural engineering experience with a focus on facility design-type projects
Excellent understanding of structural systems and practical design experience in designing process-driven facilities, water/earth retaining structures, pre-engineered buildings and their foundations, and shallow and deep foundation systems, to name a few
Conversant with the National Building Code of Canada - NBCC and provincial building codes, CSA codes for the design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures
Ability to develop designs to comply with project-specific output specifications
Ability to take ownership and accountability for completed work
Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with project teams and within the organization
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Strong computer skills including experience in structural analysis and design software such as SAP 2000, ETABS, S-FRAME and ROBOT, and MS Office
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The following skills would be considered an asset for this position:

  1. Project management skills and budget and schedule controls
  2. Knowledge of BIM 360 and REVIT
