Civil Contractor focused on civil projects - roads, earthworks and utilities in Vancouver / Lower Mainland

BC based civil contractor seeking experienced Survey Manager / Land surveyor with 6+ years of relevant experience in civils, roadworks, earthworks, and utilities projects, ranging from $10m-$15m.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for resourcing current and upcoming projects, maintaining an inventory log including service records, supplying the construction team with grading lasers & maintaining equipment in top working order
  • Work with and have the ability to operate GPS and Robotic Total Station survey for construction layout and record of measurement
  • A strong working knowledge of Trimble Machine control systems to maintain excavator and dozer systems will be an asset
  • A working knowledge of Trimble surveying equipment for GPS and Robotic surveying and experience troubleshooting and resolving issues is an asset
  • Carry out a variety of project CAD design & field survey activities including topographic surveys, field layout
  • Generate 3D models for construction (Civil 3D CAD software)
  • Compare as-built data vs design data to identify quantity, grade, or location discrepancies
  • Interpret and reconcile as-built quantities for monthly progress reports/ payments
  • Troubleshoot GPS systems and their interface with Heavy Equipment
  • Manage survey equipment company wide including procurement, tracking, equipment calibration, repairs
  • Basic maintenance and repair of systems in the field as well as in the office/ HQ
  • Preparation and quality control of field data acquisition
  • Manage and perform field surveys
  • Guide/ mentor surveyors in the field ensuring they have relevant resources project needs are met
  • Prioritize work load in a fast paced work environment
  • Machine control data preparation in Trimble Business Center is an asset
  • Field experience surveying with Trimble equipment, including establishing control in remote locations, completing field calculations from drawings, relaying information from site to office, Trimble Road, Trimble Access, General Survey, and GNSS900
  • In addition to the daily operation of the department the Survey Manager will work with the estimating team to bid new projects. This will include building project budgets, schedules, staffing list, and turn over packages.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six (6) years’ surveyor experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience with & proficiency in Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Robotic Total Station surveying
  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCad and other related 3D software programs
  • A good understanding of civil construction – pipe, drainage, earthworks etc
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract (per company insurance requirements)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume, deadline-driven environment
