Role reports to: Head of People, North America

Location: This role is located in Markham, Ontario with some travel requirements (15% within GTA/Southern Ontario; 5% NA).

Travel %: up to 15

What you will do

The Head of People, Canada role will actively support the Commercial, Supply Chain, Operations, and Corporate Functions Canada leadership teams to enable business results through coaching, talent management, organizational design, change management, and business partnership. The incumbent will address complex organizational challenges by providing HR leadership in support of local business and enterprise goals. The Head of People, Canada is responsible for designing and delivering talent programs for the business and ensuring the delivery of an integrated talent strategy by establishing priorities, aligning resources and managing implementation / execution.

The scope of this role includes:
  • Acting as the lead People partner for the leadership teams in Canada, and sitting on the Canadian Leadership Team.
  • Leading the Canadian HR team and acting as a key member of the North American People Leadership Team.
  • Leading national and enterprise-wide HR strategic initiatives, coaching and mentoring senior leaders, and delivering against the Canada talent strategy and OKRs.
  • Working in close partnership with central partners (Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Solutions) to prioritize and implement strategies.
  • Aligning with regional and global People teams to help shape our regional / global people practices.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deploy people strategies and practices in partnership with Canadian leaders to drive the achievement of our OKRs through successful organizational design, succession planning, career management, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Identify key capabilities aligned with business goals, conduct gap analyses and develop and implement buy/build strategies in partnership with business leaders.
  • Access and derive insights from talent analytics to inform strategies in the development of diverse leadership talent and technical capability across the business.
  • Partner with business leaders to shape culture, employee engagement, change initiatives and implementation plans.
  • Support building leadership capability and engagement for the country and region.
What we are looking for
Education:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree; MBA is an asset.
Experience and Skills:
  • A minimum of 10 years of prior HR business partner or talent management experience at a senior level.
  • Ability to coach, influence, and advise senior leaders.
  • Team player with a strong drive to create a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to develop strategic objectives, plans, and roadmaps, while also being able to balance day-to-day operational needs of the business.
  • Strong leadership skills; operates as a regional leader with understanding and appreciation for business differences.
  • Has experience managing, planning, and implementing projects and strategic change initiatives for sustained impact.
  • Excellent relationship management, coaching, and collaboration skills.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to manipulate data and pull insights for talent recommendations.
  • Strong story-telling / facilitation skills, with the ability to take data and differing viewpoints, and cohesively put together a recommendation / roadmap.
  • Ability to understand and integrate internal and external business drivers and financial metrics to drive talent outcomes for the business required.
  • Experience developing high-performing, diverse, and sustainable internal and external talent pipeline required.
  • Experience partnering with others to integrate HR solutions, balancing voice of local customer, external trends, short and long term needs to achieve business goal required.
