The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the development of new and enhanced products and processes for the fabrication ofcutting tools used in underground mining, as well as customized support equipment and accessories. The primary focus will be on product improvement, development, manufacturing process optimization, and failure analysis to ensure operational excellence and customer satisfaction. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, visit client sites as needed, and utilize data-driven insights to drive efficiency improvements across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead product improvement initiatives to enhance the performance, reliability, and durability of cutting tools for underground mining applications.
  • Conduct failure analysis of components in service to determine the root cause of premature failure and identify opportunities for design or material modifications.
  • Utilize failure analysis results to suggest or support modifications required to extend the service life of components and improve overall product performance.
  • Drive product development projects from concept to commercialization, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify opportunities for manufacturing process improvement and implement solutions to optimize efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Visit client sites as required to provide technical support, gather feedback, and address any product-related issues or concerns.
  • Develop detailed product specifications and performance criteria based on customer needs and market trends.
  • Analyze and report on data collected from research and development (R&D) activities and field trials to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Supporting Functions:

  • Identify and evaluate the technical capabilities of suppliers to ensure alignment with company standards and requirements.
  • Understand and address the technical requirements and challenges of clients to provide tailored solutions and support.
  • Support maintenance management processes to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms for outsourced studies or specialized projects as needed.
  • Implement methodologiesto improve operational efficiencies and streamline processes.
  • Assist in the analysis of equipment capital investment to determine alignment with corporate goals and strategic objectives.

Requirements:

  • Education in a relevant engineering discipline, with a focus on materials sciences, preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Applied Science Technologist (AScT) designation is required.
  • 3-5 years of priorexperience in product development, manufacturing process improvement, or related roles, preferably within the mining or heavy equipment industry, with a strong background in materials sciences.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical data to drive informed decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives and delivering measurable results.
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites and other locations as required.
