The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing has been providing psychotherapy, advocacy and psychoeducation services to the community since 1972. We offer convenient face to face or online services located in beautiful North Bay, Ontario.
Our mission is to support the health and wellness of the people of Nipissing and area.
The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing is a fully accredited, provincially funded, non-profit organization providing professional counselling services and community programs to individuals, couples, and families in the mental health and addictions field. The Centre also has public education and consulting services available to community organizations and industry. (Services are listed at the end of this posting.) The Centre has an annual budget of $3,900,000 and a staff of 30.
The Executive Director sits at the helm of The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing, steering it, managing its operations, and carrying out its mission according to the strategic direction of the board of directors. The Executive Director leads everything from day-to-day operations to financial management to human resources. The Executive Director is responsible for hiring staff, maintaining a relationship with the board, maintaining a relationship with the union, implementing strategies, ensuring funding is secured; while, ensuring regulatory expectations are met or exceeded.
Executive Director Job Description:
The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing is on a mission to create a vibrant organization that enhances quality of life throughout the community. We’re looking for a highly skilled Executive Director to help us fulfill this important undertaking. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director will oversee the strategic and operational efficiencies of our programs and staff. This seasoned leader will not only understand current trends in the mental health and addictions field but will also have experience in developing and implementing a successful organizational plan. Experience in hiring and managing staff is essential, working within a unionized operation. Establishing relationships with local community groups is part of this role. Above all, the Executive Director should be highly effective in a leadership role that requires clear communication skills and decisiveness.
Executive Director Must Possess:
- Strong working knowledge of fiscal management, including creation and ongoing review and management of annual budgets, business finance, capital funding, contracts and partnerships.
- Proven managerial and supervisory capabilities in a unionized environment with solid negotiation and investigation skills.
- Sound working knowledge of human resource policies and procedures.
- Capacity to read, interpret and apply Collective Agreements, labour laws and benefit plan agreements.
- Sound working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to non-profit organizations, including Canada Labour Code standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, CPP, EI, Health Benefits program, Employee Pension Plan, etc.
- Proficient working knowledge of computers and of their practical work applications (Word processing, Email, Internet and information dissemination, locally using EMHware).
- Human Resources experience required.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, problem solving and evaluation skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and be able to meet deadlines.

- In conjunction with the Board of Directors, develop Strategic Plans at five (5) year intervals to identify and diversify the program objectives of the organization and review annually.
- Respond to Board of Directors issues as directed by clients. Anticipate and respond to client needs, which will either meet or exceed their expectations.
- Attend and ensure the coordination of yearly Annual General Meeting, quarterly Board of Director meetings, teleconferences and prepare reports
- Develop effective communication and prepare recommendations and reports to enable the Board of Directors to make decisions and discharge their fiduciary duties.
- Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board of Directors when required, and jointly, when appropriate.
- Review and approve expenditures within the authority limit delegated by the Board of Directors.
- Primary contact for the organization for all media and external inquiries.
- Ensures that onboarding, recruitment, retention, management, development, and compliance are carried out with excellence.
- Assist in the development and implementation of all policies and procedures, including job descriptions for employees in conjunction with management as required.
- Demonstrate competence in reading, creating, and understanding financial documents, including budgets, cash flow, income statements, balance statements, and audits.
- Research alternative source(s) of funding, oversee the development of fundraising plans, write funding proposals, and participate in fundraising activities, as required.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions conducive to the Organization.
- Primary contact for Labour Management Relations Committee (LMRC) meetings, Bargaining Negotiations and review of the Collective Agreement as required.
- Manage and maintain compliance with all legislation relevant to the Ontario Not For Profit Corporations Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Canada Labour Code and WSIB.
- Responds to requests for information under the freedom of information legislation.
- Work with administration, and legal counsel to ensure there is a consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with privacy policies for all employees and all other matters.
- Attend regular Board meetings as Board Secretary (a non-voting position).
Executive Director Qualifications/Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Proven success working with a board of directors

- Enthusiastic / Dynamic / Flexible / Organized / Collaborative
- Bilingual (English/French)
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- Masters Degree in a field related to mental health & addictions or healthcare
- 5 Years of financial management experience in a social service or non-profit organization
- 5 Years management or supervisory experience
- Relevant experience in mental health or addictions treatment
- Registered by a professional college in Ontario that regulates psychotherapy
This position requires five days a week onsite attendance
Salary Range: $95,022 to $114,075 (under review)
