Candidate Profile

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the evaluation, assessment, and improvement design for existing residential, commercial, and industrial buildings directly for building owners and operators. The successful candidate will be a member of the Building Science and Restoration Team and must be comfortable dealing with clients, communicating with contractors, and working on active construction sites. A commitment to providing first-rate client service and technical excellence to deliver practical, creative solutions is essential. An inquisitive outlook, a hard worker who readily and quickly assumes responsibility, and a team player who has the ability to work independently with minimum direction are traits that are required to be successful in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Manage projects and clients from conceptual design to final completion
  2. Site investigation and evaluation of existing buildings
  3. Formulate retrofit programs and recommend the project concept to the client
  4. Design and analysis of existing building components, upgrades, and improvements
  5. Preparation of reports and studies
  6. Preparation of electrical drawings and specifications
  7. Design building systems in accordance with office standards, the requirements of municipal or provincial building codes, and other applicable standards
  8. Check layouts and services for continuity; developing various electrical systems layouts in co-ordination with the structural, architectural, and mechanical components of the building
  9. Develop lighting layouts and coordinate with other disciplines
  10. Develop power distribution layouts and sizing, as well as layouts of electrical/switch/transformer rooms
  11. Perform electrical load calculations for base building projects
  12. Respond to both internal and external communication regarding the design status
  13. Liaise with all project consultants; coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines; check layouts of electrical services for interferences with other components of the building such as structure, ceilings, millwork, etc.
  14. Design electrical building systems directly in Revit/CAD; adhering to company BIM/CAD standards
  15. Coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines
  16. Contract administration/construction review while implementing retrofit work
  17. Mentor and train junior staff
  18. Market and solicit work from new and existing clients
Professional Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION: Electrical Engineering Degree from an accredited university

Registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario

EXPERIENCE: 5-8 years of electrical engineering experience

Supervision of 2 or 3 junior engineers / engineering interns / technologists

SKILLS

Committed to client service and technical excellence. Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability. Team player with the ability to work independently with minimum direction. Familiarity with systems such as electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication, and/or audio-visual systems is a plus. Familiarity with lighting calculations and able to perform such calculations. Familiar with structural, architectural, and mechanical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences. Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients. Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team. Strong attention to detail and produce error-free, high-quality work. Demonstrated effective communication skills. Able to interact professionally with all levels of business personnel and build strong working relationships. Proven leadership skills. Exceptional organizational, time-management, and project management skills. Self-motivated, a fast learner with the desire to continually learn and grow. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
