About the Role

Smith + Andersen is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Toronto. As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing electrical building systems, preparing drawings and specifications, and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure seamless project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical building systems, including electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication, and audio-visual systems.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver a project.
  • Collaborate with structural, architectural, and mechanical disciplines to ensure continuity and accuracy in designs.
  • Develop lighting layouts and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Perform electrical load calculations for base building projects.
  • Respond to internal and external communication regarding project or design status.
  • Liaise with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment, and component selection.
  • Assist in construction administration by reviewing equipment shop drawings and conducting site visits.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of direct industry experience in electrical building services.
  • Diploma/Degree from an electrical building services/engineering program.
  • A C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will be considered.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Autodesk Revit 2017 or newer, with exposure to electrical layouts and systems.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo software.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with systems such as electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication, and/or audio-visual systems.
  • Familiarity with lighting calculations and able to perform such calculations.
  • Familiar with structural, architectural, and mechanical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences.
  • Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.
  • Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
