Position Summary:
ErinoakKids is currently seeking a detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Health and Safety Specialist within our People and Culture Department. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Disability Management Consultant, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for contributing to the overall maintenance and compliance of the ErinoakKids Occupational Health, Safety and Disability Management program.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support a safe and healthy work environment by leading by example and reinforcing the Health and Safety program at ErinoakKids;
  2. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act at all times;
  3. Support the Health and Safety Excellence program;
  4. Conduct regular internal health and safety audits and inspections;
  5. Support Disability Management in conjunction with the Health, Safety and Disability Management program by managing claims, including an early and safe return to work process;
  6. Track, record and report WSIB cases, including supporting employees through the process;
  7. Manage client and staff Incident reports, compiling statistical reports on accidents, injuries and modified work on a monthly basis;
  8. Conduct ergonomic assessments;
  9. Maintain health and safety as well as Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) policies, ensuring current and in compliance with health and safety legislation and best practices;
  10. Support in managing the immunization program, including collecting all required immunization records from new hires;
  11. Support with the delivery of occupational health, safety and wellness services program;
  12. Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee as required;
  13. Liaise with external partners including OSI, WSIB and St. John Ambulance;
  14. Maintain confidentiality of employee health records according to ErinoakKids policies and procedures;
  15. Provide First Aid & CPR Training to staff (as per St John Ambulance standards) and manage training program.
Qualifications:
  1. Undergraduate Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business or a related field;
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of experience developing and maintaining a health and safety program;
  3. Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, AODA and legislative Ministry of Labour requirements;
  4. Achieved or actively working towards a disability management certification, or Occupational Health and Safety designation is preferred;
  5. IPAC certification and First Aid Instructor certifications are considered an asset;
  6. Healthcare or childcare industry experience would be considered an asset;
  7. Strong experience managing WSIB claims, reporting and tracking accidents and injuries;
  8. Ability to carry projects or initiatives while working independently;
  9. Strong time and project management skills in order to effectively manage multiple priorities within tight timelines;
  10. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written; prior experience providing Health and Safety training is an asset;
  11. Proven interpersonal skills to deal with all levels of the organization;
  12. Advanced MS Office computer literacy;
  13. Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, sound judgment and sensitivity in dealing with internal/external communities.
