Manager of Engineering, Windows Threat Protection

Role Overview Are you a technical leader who is passionate about security, excellence in software engineering, and delivering best‑in‑class protection to millions of customers? We are looking for a Manager of Software Engineering to lead our Windows Threat Protection team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a cross‑functional team responsible for keeping our customers safe from malware and other threats. This is a Hybrid Position located in either Waterloo or Toronto, Canada. We are only considering candidates within a commutable distance to either location. You will be required to be onsite on an as‑needed basis; when not working onsite, you will work from your home office. About the Role Work with product managers, security researchers, data scientists and engineers to create and drive the roadmap, and delivering threat protection capabilities for Windows. Grow a highly technical engineering team, paying close attention to mentoring and people development of the industry’s best talent. Provide architectural and technical guidance and ensure that sound engineering practices are followed. Follow Lean and Agile processes and drive a culture of continuous improvement. Contribute to and drive software engineering excellence across McAfee. About You 9+ years of engineering management experience, with at least 5 years of software engineering experience. Experience needs to include directly managing both development and quality assurance functions to deliver software on Windows at the OS‑internals levels. Strong knowledge of software development and testing at the Windows internals level, including Visual Studio, WinDbg, COM / DCOM, IPC / RPC, multi‑threaded design, filesystems (NTFS, FAT32, exFAT), ETW, and WMI. Experience with secure software development concepts and practices, including threat‑modeling, secure coding. Highly knowledgeable about Gen‑AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Co‑pilot. Proven track record of delivering high‑quality commercial software at scale to millions of users. Hands‑on ability to lead teams in an Agile / Scrum environment. Knowledge of the software development process, including development, automation, build and deployment and CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of how to measure application performance on Windows.
