The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health, a University of Toronto-affiliated biomedical research center, is recruiting an emerging leader in the area of Musculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine. The appointment is for Principal Investigator, either basic scientist or clinician-scientist, at the academic rank of Assistant Professor. We seek applicants that aim to develop outstanding independent research programs at the cutting edge of musculoskeletal development, maintenance and regeneration. These include, but are not limited to, stem cell biology, cell/tissue engineering, and animal models, with applications to tissue trauma and human disease using approaches such as molecular “omics”, single-cell analytics, and/or high resolution imaging. Applicants with combined computational and wet lab focusare also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will join the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute’sfaculty as the inaugural holder of the Tanenbaum Chair inMusculoskeletal Regenerative Medicine at Sinai Health and the University of Toronto. The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute is internationally renowned for its basic and applied research in stem cell biology, systems biology, diabetes, cancer, neurobiology, musculoskeletal regenerative medicine, and women’s and infants’ health. The Institute is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators and provides a collaborative research-intensive environment with modern and innovative core facilities housed in theNetwork Biology Collaborative Centre that includes proteomics, single-cell and spatial genomics, robotics, and the Nikon Centre of Excellence in cell imaging. Sinai Health System is also home toThe Centre for Phenogenomics , a state-of-the-art facility for mouse models, and is a founding member of theNanoscale Biomedical Imaging Facility . Close ties with flagship clinical programs, as well as a history of biotech entrepreneurship, ensure the successful translation of our research findings.

The successful candidate will be cross-appointed to appropriate research and/or clinical department(s) at the University of Toronto, and will be affiliated with the University-based Tanenbaum Institute for Science in Sport . The University of Toronto has one of the world’s most concentrated and largest biomedical research communities that includes 9 affiliated academic hospital research institutes.

Qualifications

Investigators at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute are appointed to independent positions equivalent to Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on experience; preference for this opportunity will be given to individuals qualifying at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead innovative, independent, and externally funded, research programs of the highest international calibre and impact. Collaborations within the research Institute and clinical departments are also encouraged. Successful candidates will have opportunities for career growth and advancement through the ranks, and we offer competitive, generous salaries and start-up packages commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Successful candidates will hold a PhD and/or MD degree, with postdoctoral experience and an established record of research accomplishment as demonstrated by outstanding publications, presentations at international conferences, awards and accolades, and reference letters.
