Position Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling the administration therapeutics and educational activities related to the provision of Respiratory therapy services for the Portage District General Hospital. The incumbent provides clinical support to the Physicians and Practitioners in the clinics by coordinating and managing client needs when referred for Respiratory Care. This role includes all aspects of client diagnosis, education, self-management, and follow-up.

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision, and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved School of Respiratory Therapy Program, accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Respiratory Therapy Education
  • Active membership and in good standing with the Manitoba Association of Registered Respiratory Therapists
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Proficiency in both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats, and other mediums
  • Good work and attendance record

Conditions of Employment

  • Completes and maintains a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate
  • All Health Care workers are required to be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy

Term Condition (if applicable): Maternity/parental leave of absence term may expire sooner than indicated, subject to a minimum notice of two (2) weeks or one pay period, whichever is longer.
