Our client is seeking a senior category manager who will act as a category expert, possessing a thorough understanding of the competitive, consumer, and retailer landscape for key brands in our business portfolio. This role leverages data as a competitive advantage, supporting strategic and sales planning by utilizing consumer and customer insights to achieve organizational objectives. Advanced analytical capabilities, market research, and execution tools are employed to enhance our influence with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the category, shopper insights, competitive environment, and retailer landscape to drive category sales.
  • Support Marketing & Sales with category insights and analysis for business planning, new product launches, and identifying distribution gaps.
  • Leverage industry, consumer, and customer trends to uncover business insights and sales opportunities that accelerate both short-term and long-term retail growth.
  • Lead and participate in the preparation of recurring Customer Category reviews.
  • Provide assortment and planogram recommendations to identify and drive strategic sales opportunities and customer growth objectives.
  • Utilize advanced tools and insights to transform data into actionable insights: Nielsen and customer POS, Loyalty Card, Panel (Numerator), Shopper insights, Assortment, and POG tools.

Key Attributes for Success:

  • In-depth understanding of retail customers from store level to headquarters, consumer insights, trade promotions, and consumer/shopper marketing.
  • Strong analytical background with proven ability to develop presentations and deliver them to senior levels within the manufacturer and retail customer headquarters.
  • Strong working knowledge of IRI/Nielsen databases (data insights and maintenance).
  • Proficiency with planogram software applications (JDA).
  • Strong knowledge of Numerator consumer insights for internal and external applications.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Direct experience with leading Category Management resources and projects.
  • Experience in designing and managing consumer research projects.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and written/oral communication skills.

Contractual Information:

  • Physical Demands: Minimal travel required, primarily for visits to customers, field-based sales teams, headquarter sales/marketing teams, and broker resources.
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Education: MBA in Business/Marketing preferred, or a Bachelor’s degree with substantial experience in the CPG industry.
  • Additional Qualifications: An MBA is not required. Must be a self-starter, independent, and experienced. Ability to excel in day-to-day operations. Comfortable working in a small team environment and collaborating with counterparts in various areas. Adaptable to unusual situations.
  • This position is remote with a hybrid schedule of 2 days in the office. Approximately 30 employees are based in the Etobicoke office.
