POSITION SUMMARY

The seven health-partners in the Georgian Bay Information Network (GBIN) recognize that a major, system-wide clinical transformation is needed to achieve high quality patient care, with evidence based integrated technology solutions across the system. GBIN, a shared Health Information System, will support the “patient centered, clinically aligned, digitally transformed care” vision identified by the partners’ clinical leadership.

The Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) works closely with the GBIN leadership team, CMIO and TMO to provide clinical and informatics leadership to inform strategic planning for GBIN, acting as the liaison between clinical stakeholders and operational teams. They are responsible for creating, supporting, maintaining, and reporting on adoption of partnership standards and collaboratively leading the informatics program across the health system to promote safe, high quality and efficient care.

Reporting to the Vice President, Digital Health, Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO), the CNIO will oversee the stabilization, sustainment and optimization of the Shared Health Information System (HIS) ensuring that clinical best practices are considered while making any changes to the HIS. This includes working closely with the associate Chief Nursing Executives (CNEs), medical leaders and regional clinical executives to provide strategic clinical leadership for clinical planning, implementation and sustainment of digital initiatives. The CNIO will also be responsible for driving the GBIN vision, driving clinical alignment, and enabling effective best practice clinical decision-making. The CNIO must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
  • Providing guidance for the project teams and the Clinician Advisory Group to facilitate strong and timely decision-making
  • Managing the scope, schedule, and quality of nursing-related content and workflow development
  • Ensuring that the nursing community is engaged in the project
  • Assisting directors and managers in their respective areas
  • Being familiar with the nursing workflows
  • Being familiar with nurses’ training curriculum and training material
  • Setting proper expectations for all members of the nursing community
  • Ensuring proper engagement by nursing leadership
  • Promoting the new HIS and representing it positively to the Nursing community
  • Establishing deadlines and adhering to them
  • Putting in the time necessary to make the project a success
  • Coordinating tightly with the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) and the Transformation Management Office (TMO)
  • Reviewing the progress and risks/issues of the project regularly with the Project Management Office (PMO)
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Masters in Informatics, Health Informatics or Nursing required
  • Current and active RN license
  • Canadian Nurses Association Certification, Nursing Informatics and/or CPHIMS optional
  • Minimum 5 years position related experience required
  • HIS experience – at least 2 prior implementations or long-term experience with HIS support
  • Strong Transformation Management experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong experience with KPIs management
  • Past success with large-scale system projects
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
