DescriptionResponsible for the overall performance of the Image & Validation (I&V) team, the Director will oversee all production activities, ensuring the team achieves its goals while maintaining excellent service standards and high subscriber satisfaction. The main objectives of the role include providing operational leadership to the team, leading process optimization initiatives, providing timely and accurate reporting and metrics to business leads and subscribers, ensuring production capacity meets fluctuating demand, and ensuring all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met. The Director will work closely with the Vice President, Operations Transformation to deliver on key transformation objectives and operational improvements while reviewing KPIs and production performance measures to help streamline the operational process.To be successful in this role, the incumbent must provide sound operations management and people leadership expertise, manage a team delivering consistent high-quality content, images, and data; deliver within the target SLAs; maintain/improve a collaborative and innovative culture and communicate effectively within the teams; and propose innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation, leading a team of cross functional managers and team members responsible for carrying out GS1 Canada’s Imaging and Validation activities.
- Work closely with the VP, Operations Transformation in developing, communicating, and implementing strategic and operational direction.
- Establish the KPI framework to measure progress against strategic goals and provide timely, accurate reporting to help drive decision making and performance improvements.
- Design, develop and implement a full set of operational tools to manage the business, including capacity and production plans, forecasts, productivity reporting and budgets.
- Work with subscribers and GS1 Business Leaders to lead a formal S&OP process to ensure the needs of the business are well understood, planned for, and accounted for.
- Build production coordination and planning capability by coordinating work, maintaining production schedules, and managing resource allocation.
- Promote cross functional learning and training throughout the operation to ensure the workforce can scale and flex according to fluctuating volumes.
- Champion a continuous improvement mindset, coaching the team in the development and implementation of a portfolio of process improvement / automation initiatives with a view to scaling the operation while reducing costs and improving SLAs.
- Develop a culture where team members thrive, take on new challenges, and continue to grow.
- Provide hands on coaching and mentoring to the I&V Management Team.
- Handle subscriber escalations, serving as a subject matter expert to staff on escalated issues.
- Work directly with technology, solutions, and services group to build a robust development and process improvement backlog and to ensure the operation is aligned to the overall enterprise technology and solution ecosystem.
- Liaise with 3rd Party service providers, contractors, and external parties, establishing solid business relationships and ensuring they are accountable to contractual service levels.
- Develop a deep understanding of GS1 standards, particularly around measurement and imaging.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for all employees.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- University degree in Business Management or a combination of education and business experience (University degree and minimum of 5 years of operations management experience)
- Demonstrated experience managing a high-paced manufacturing operation, fulfillment center, 3PL operation or similar environment.
- Experience with P&L management and budgeting
- Experience implementing and operating contemporary ERPs, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Inventory Management and Workflow tools, etc.
- Industry recognized certification preferred, e.g., Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills, with an ability to translate detailed analysis and data into meaningful insights to drive process and technology optimization.
- Ability to articulate and resolve complex operational problems and execute innovative solutions.
- Strong leadership skills in inspiring, and educating team members, with a demonstrable track record in managing a high-performance team through coaching and mentoring.
- A result-orientated team-driven person with exceptional ability to facilitate and bring people together to collaborate and achieve results.
- Effective time management and organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities and conflicting commitments.
