Join the growing team at Black & McDonald in Southern Ontario. Are you a motivated professional looking to establish a successful career foundation? The role of Chief Estimator in Scarborough, Ontario involves working on various mechanical projects in industrial sectors.

About the Role

The Chief Estimator will be responsible for leading a team of estimators and working closely with the General Manager to prepare estimates for construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering or construction technology, with a minimum of 15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of estimators in preparing estimates for construction projects
  • Advise on tendering procedures and recommend tender awards
  • Establish and maintain tendering processes and cost monitoring systems
  • Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners to ensure accurate estimates
  • Oversee site reviews, tender reviews, and project closings
  • Maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors to ensure accurate estimates
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology and construction methods
  • Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs

Education and Experience Requirements

Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or Qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years' experience and previous estimating experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of contract management and construction scheduling
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and trade fluency
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Self-driven leadership abilities and project management experience
  • Advanced user of MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects)
  • Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen) and Accubid Change Order Pro
