Position: Community Support Worker

Hours: Casual, Hours are generally between Mon-Friday 9am-3pm

We are seeking a Casual Community Support Worker to join our Sources Crossroads Community Inclusion team This individual must be compassionate, innovative, and enjoy working in a team environment.

SOURCES is a community-based non-profit organization that has been providing support, encouragement and hope for individuals and families in White Rock, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Prince George, and Parksville for 40 years. Sources Crossroads Community Inclusion Services

Our mission is to support clients in identifying & pursuing their aspirations in line with their needs, desires, and abilities.

The Crossroads program is a long standing and specialized Community Inclusion program based in the heart of Ladner, BC. At Crossroads, we focus on developing individualized supports for clients with varying developmental disabilities. Through person centred planning, the knowledgeable support staff work alongside each client in supporting them to have the best possible quality of life within their own community by designing ways for them overcome barriers they experience in their life. Our primary areas of focus are supporting our clients in attaining a sustainable employment, improving quality of life through social and life skill development, improving general health and fitness, and behaviour management.

General Responsibilities:

  • To be able to work in a team and follow guidelines set for the program.
  • To be able to successfully meet all probationary requirements upon hiring and be able to complete assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Participate in Monthly staff meetings, training (when applicable), and inspections.
  • To liaise with various program/ client stakeholders including family members, businesses, and other professionals

Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • To be able to successfully develop a supportive rapport with clients in service in addition to providing encouragement while working on their individual goals.
  • To be competent with designing and overseeing client programming.
  • To be organized and accurate with data entry and analysis such as log entries and report writing.
  • To be comfortable with supporting clients exhibiting risk behaviors
  • To be comfortable with providing personal care for clients
  • To be competent with designing and overseeing client programming
  • To be able to transport clients in the community using program vehicles.
  • To be able to advocate for the clients we support.
  • To be competent with teaching and using augmentative visual communication tools such as pictures, PECS, sign language, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma and 2 years post-secondary education plus 3 months experience supporting people with developmental disabilities OR > 2 years’ experience supporting people with developmental disabilities or an equivalent combination of either.
  • Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook, and central data systems
  • Effectively communicate professionally, verbally, and written in English
  • Current Food Safe certificate (Training may be accessed through Sources)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR (Training may be accessed through Sources)
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (Training may be accessed through Sources)
  • Criminal Records check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Records
  • Review Program Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and driver’s abstract.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: Starting at $25.05/hr. (in accordance with Grid Level 10 as per the collective agreement)
