Ottawa, Canada Political Intelligence Full time

Political Intelligence, a leading consulting firm specializing in government relations, public relations, and public opinion polling, is seeking an Associate Consultant to support the Vice President of Government Relations and Indigenous Affairs in facilitating discussions and negotiations between First Nations communities and the federal and provincial governments. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Indigenous rights and the advancement of the priorities of Canada’s Indigenous Nations, while working within a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Vice President of Government Relations and Indigenous Affairs in managing and advancing files related to project development and negotiations between First Nations communities and the federal government.
  • Conduct research and analysis relating to the evolving world of Indigenous rights, legal developments, and developments related to provincial and federal government laws, policies, and programs.
  • Draft briefing notes, reports, and other written materials to support communication with First Nations communities and government stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communication between Political Intelligence, First Nations communities, and government officials.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to clients on matters related to Indigenous affairs and government relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Indigenous studies, political science, public administration, public policy, law). Advanced degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working with First Nations communities and/or Indigenous organizations is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working within federal or provincial politics and/or federal or provincial governments is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous Rights, treaties, and federal and/or provincial laws, policies, and programs affecting Indigenous communities in Canada is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to conduct research, analyze information, and produce high-quality written materials under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with database and research tools preferred.
  • Willingness to travel if required will be highly beneficial, as well as a willingness to work irregular hours which may be necessary from time to time.

Location:

This position can be based in Ottawa, Edmonton, or remote, with occasional travel as needed.
