Job Summary:

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for contributing to the mechanical design and calculations of assigned manufacturing projects related to medium voltage switchgear.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products that can be manufactured.
  2. Review customer specifications to create drawings and bill of materials for assigned projects within budget, including the selection of parts.
  3. Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create detailed drawings of the product, including mechanical 2D fabrication (sheet metal and structural) and 3D assembly drawings.
  4. Work with purchasing department and vendors to receive quotes and lead times to complete design.
  5. Provide engineering support to fabrication and production departments during all stages of manufacturing.
  6. Coordinate with customers regarding specification/design questions and clarifications.
  7. Provide suggestions on areas of improvement to standardize and increase the efficiency surrounding production.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Proficient in the use of SolidWorks to create 2D and 3D fabrication and assembly drawings.
  2. General understanding in mechanical and structural FEA.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to collaborate in team environments.
  8. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience/Education:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  2. At least 3-5 years of related work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  3. Must be able to traverse the production floor as needed.
