JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineer, Transmission Engineering Stations is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies and practices as part of the Engineering team. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, this position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, small tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, assist in estimating costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  1. Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies and practices.
  2. Responsible for switching station and substation designs in greenfield and brownfield applications, based on capital growth, customer connects, and sustainment projects.
  3. Prepare Engineer type project designs and monitor project costs and schedules.
  4. Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning and operations groups.
  5. Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action.
  6. Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules and initiate corrective action as appropriate.
  7. Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives.
  8. Develop criteria, guidelines, standards and new practices based upon codes, technologies and methodologies.
  9. Provide direction and support to colleagues within the Engineering team.
  10. Provide direction to staff, consultants and other departments that collaborate with Engineering.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specializing in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
  2. Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
  3. Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.).
  4. Relevant experience in a combination of the following engineering tasks: planning facilities and providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management, and coordination of projects.
  5. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam software is an asset.
  6. Ability to mentor, coach and support Engineers-in Training and technologists.
  7. Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism.
  8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  9. Excellent facilitation, project management, and decision-making skills.
  10. Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork.
  11. Demonstrated skill in SaskPower's Competencies.
  12. Must have a continuing record of professional development.
  13. A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
