The City of Abbotsford’s Engineering Inspections and Permits division is currently seeking an experienced professional to join their dynamic team as a Works Inspector.
This is a skilled position requiring a high degree of technical knowledge to perform regulatory and field inspection work ensuring that developers, contractors, utility companies and City operations follow approved plans and specifications for: sewer, waterworks, roadway, drainage and other public works construction projects.

Works Inspectors will be required to inspect and report on all aspects of current gravel removal/deposit operations and civil construction associated with new development, capital works, and franchise utility infrastructure. They will be responsible to ensure infrastructure meets or exceeds industry standards and conforms to by‑laws, plans, specifications, schedules and regulatory requirements and to present a summation of work completed by the contractor.

The incumbent must exercise considerable independence of judgment in interpreting and explaining specifications, rules and regulations as well as possess excellent communication, documentation, interpersonal and customer services skills to proactively deal with construction issues between City staff, contractors, developers, consultants, utility companies and the general public.

As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • Completion of Grade 12;
  • Completion of a Certificate of Technology program in Civil Engineering
  • Two years inspection experience or;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC as a Certified Technician (CTech);
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence.


This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $42.46 to $49.96. At the City of Abbotsford, we work strongly to create a challenging yet rewarding environment for our employees to thrive.
