Position: Intermediate Estimator

Here's how an Intermediate Estimator for our Edmonton Melloy office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  1. Performs quantity, material, and labor takeoff from drawings, specifications, and related documents.
  2. Compiles large spreadsheets and databases of bill of quantity data in the development of the estimate.
  3. Reads and comprehends client documents including a detailed understanding of multi-discipline scopes.
  4. Reviews quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or chief estimator.
  5. Applies productivity and material units and allowances to the estimate.
  6. Assists in developing work plans, crane pick plans, indirect support, etc.
  7. Documents all information relating to the estimate and archives and organizes such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award.
  8. On a fixed-price job, ensures that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements.
  9. Solicits pricing from trade contractors and suppliers under supervision of lead estimator.
  10. Attends preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring.
  11. Develops and maintains strong customer-focused relationships with all stakeholders.
  12. Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  1. Postsecondary degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
  2. 5 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating, and 6 months of on-site experience is preferred.
  3. Knowledge of construction industry; on-site experience or exposure to construction (hands-on or trade experience) preferred.
  4. Ability to work in a busy team environment.
  5. Attention to detail and the ability to creatively solve problems.
  6. Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  7. Ability to read isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings.
  8. Working knowledge of CAD software.
